So a while back I got tired of having a horn that was basically useless. The stock 300 horn just isn't loud enough to really get the attention of anyone it seems, especially in traffic. Well one day when I was shopping at Harbor Freight I found a solution to my problem.

It was a little bit of a tight fit, but I was able to fit it behind the left side fairing. Installation took longer than expected, but it was definitely worth it. Here's some pics of the install.

The first thing I did was to remove the stock horn. I then found another place to mount the bracket that would allow for installation of the new horn.

Inside the green circle is the stock horn bracket. I had to bend it a little to give me the correct placement. I ended up removing that rubber piece also to give me a more secure mount.

Here's how the new horn looks when mounted.

The horn also comes with a relay that you need to hook up to make it work. I couldn't find anywhere good to mount it, so I just zip-tied it to the frame. This placement also allowed me to use the stock horn wires with no modification.

After that I just had to wire everything up, but before I did that I had to make a trip to the auto parts store for an in-line fuse to hook to the horn's power feed. While I was there I also picked up some green marker lights. That's one of the green ones on the right. It's kinda hard to see in the light, but it looks pretty sweet I think. :thumbup:

After that I tested the horn, and I gotta say it's loud. You could annoy people real quick with this thing, but it should hopefully get the attention of the next person who tries to pull out in front of me or does something else stupid.

I didn't bother to do a video. It's kind of hard to tell how loud it really is unless you hear it in person, but here's a good comparison someone else did. Note: This review is for the Stebel Nautilus, but it's pretty much the same horn.

I hope you at least cover that exposed wire with electrical tape. You should do do a comparison on how the horn can be heard from inside a vehicle.

My friend who rides a CBR600rr just pulls in the clutch and revs the engine, he says that gets the cager's attention easily. Not so sure if that would work on my stock 250. haha

Because disconnecting the engine and transmission at the one time you most need throttle response is a great idea...:rolleyes:

Nah, he only does it when the cager is cutting him off from behind, if he decided to twist the throttle then there is a good change he would get killed.

Actually I think the stock 250 horn is pretty loud to be honest.

I love that horn. That is awesomely loud and compact enough to be reasonable on a bike.

did you do anyhting to cover the contacts at the bottom....about to install mine and wondering if they'll get wet when I go puddle jumping. I take it you got a 20a inline fuse ?

Yeah I just wrapped the exposed contacts with electrical wire for now. For the fuse I just picked up a simple in-line fuse holder at the auto parts store. I mounted it under the seat and zip-tied it to the frame.

Thanks for the excellent pics...followed your instrux and have it mounted, being a rube goldberg type...i think maybe i'll see if i can cover exposed bottom with a silicone baby bottle nipple punched to take the wires...looks like perfect shape. And i do get a noticeable amount of splash up there.

Got it installed...moving the bracket was something I would not have thought of so thanks again. Yes...extremely loud

Love the horn mod. I did something similar but used a dual-tone horn out of my, now sold, '97 Intrepid. That car had a great sounding horn. Now my bike does! ;)

Nothing like responding to a year old thread but here goes.
I have installed on my 300 a Stebel AirHorn- nice and loud. Just took a bit of cutting to be able to install it to the radiator bolt. Has a inline fuse and works off of the oem horn switch and it adds a little bit more chrome to the bike to.
