View Full Version : AreaP Exhaust Fitment Issues

I managed to snag a used AreaP full exhaust system (CF Long Quiet Core) on eBay for a decent price from a salvage yard. It came off a crashed 300.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble installing it. I don't have any of the instructions or documentation, so I'm trying to fit everything as I go along.

The problem I'm having is the midpipe sticks out the side too far and interferes with the bottom fairing (belly pan). If I rotate the midpipe down, it causes the muffler to touch the swingarm :\

The above pics show the very tight clearances I'm dealing with. Compare that to how much space there is between the midpipe and lower fairing on Loadthis' bike:

I sent AreaP an email this morning asking for a parts list and installation instructions to make sure I'm not missing anything. But any help or ideas would be appreciated. Right now I've loosened off all the clamps and exhaust port bolts to try and work it all into place, but no matter what I move or rotate, there's interference with the swingarm or belly pan.

kbryant will likely have some suggestions on how to tweak it, if somebody else doesn't jump on it first.

Hi David,

I'll take a look at your e-mail shortly. Obviously I would not be able to completely determine if there is an issue with the system being damaged/tweaked from the salvage yard unless we had it back for inspection within our fixtures/tooling. But simply looking at your pix:

1. If you do not have the included Fairing Spacer kit, then yes, it would touch on the bottom of the belly pan corner.

2. The mounting bracket position can be adjusted/moved/rotated and/or spaced out to gain more clearance against the swingarm and/or brake line hoop guides. The hoop guides should be tapped in slightly as well to not protrude into the suspension swing past the muffler.

All these things are covered in our instruction manual.

Well bugger... there's my answer then. The yard didn't include that. And the muffler only hits the swingarm when I try to rotate the pipe away from the belly pan, so that won't be an issue if I space the fairing out.

I sent my email via the contact form on the website btw. If you could send me the installation instructions and parts list (to make sure I'm not missing anything else) that'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response!

My belly pan still touched a little with the spacers and melted a bit.

FWIW my race area p touches at the bottom on my 250 also. A couple washers at the fairing mount there might help. Doesn't bother me and it's only melted a tiny on the inside. Price you pay to stuff bigger piping in a small space.

Had mine over 2 years and still only that small spot on inside BTW.

Thanks for the replies all :)

kbryant sent me the install instructions and it looks like my two main concerns are very easy to deal with. I just need to install a spacer or some washers on the lower fairing, and I need to bend the brake line retainers back a bit so the muffler clears the swingarm.

I'll probably install some of that heat shield foil tape to protect the lower fairing too.

A little bit of polishing and she'll be good as new!

Threw a couple of washers behind the lower fairing mount. Problem solved :)

This exhaust sounds so damn good.

Awesome. Sometimes I have spacers on mine and sometimes not. When I pull the fairings off the washers fall out and sometimes I'm too lazy to put them back on lol.
