View Full Version : Should I change the oil?

When I bought my 300 from the dealer, they said they changed the oil at 400miles, now the bike is at 800 miles and I've thought to myself, hmm maybe I should change the oil.

I mean, the maintenance calls for 600 miles, so what would you do? I thought about changing it at 1,000 to be safe.

Thoughts?

sure why not?

Not going to hurt anything (if you do it right... so make sure you do it right)

Better safe than sorry. Just change it. Personally, I love doing auto work.

Wouldn't think twice about it. If I could afford it I'd change my oil every 500km lol

Should I switch to a fully synthetic? I'm a firm believer in synthetic oils but I just want to run it by the community before I do that, the bike has about 850 miles and it's going up every day, probably be at 1,000 by the end of tomorrow lol.

Also it's 10W 40 right?

When in doubt, change it out. 10w-40 is usually what you should use, but it may not be ideal depending on your climate. Consult your FSM but with 10w-40 youre probably fine. I'm pretty sure Kawasaki tells you to put synthetic in your bike. If the manufacturer says synthetic, use synthetic.

God, I wish I loved doing it...or felt comfortable with it at least a smidgen.

Go conventional the first couple of oil changes, then switch to synthetic.

Thanks! I'll buy the oil change tomorrow, i'll stick with the regular stuff.

But this spring I'll be dumping synthetic + K&N oil filter. Gonna go all out for my girl.

You mean you hate doing it?

It depends on your definition of "doing it". :p

If referring to mechanical work of any kind, yes.

 My bad if the choice of words was confusing.

I went full synthetic at 600 miles and never looked back.

 It was a joke.

To each his own! Some people do. All the research I did when I bought my 300 convinced me to wait until after a couple thousand miles to switch to synthetic.
