The last one was rained out so lets try again. I woulf realy appreciate it if the folks from the Houston are can give some suggestions on things to do after the ride. Please spread the word around so we get a good showing. We had 12 for the last one. Maybe we can get more for this one.

Place: Fulshear
Date: June 13
Time: 10 A.M.

Ride details graciously provided by Ollie:
From Fulshear, we'll scoot 3 or 4 miles west on FM-1093 to Simonton.
FM-1489 from Simonton to Brookshire, with nice tight sweepers.
From Brookshire, we'll follow FM-359 through pastoral open countryside to Hempstead, where we briefly follow FM-1488 (with some nice curves) over to SR-362.
On 362, we'll encouter hills, curves, and scenic vistas while making our way to Navasota.
In Navasota, we'll have a short butt / pee / water break. Well-fed Ninja Babies don't need gasoline that soon. :-)
Coming out of Navasota, we'll follow FM-3090 through the countryside to find numerous curves, scenic vistas, and more twisties. This road is a favorite of motorcyclists 'round here.
Up near Carlos, TX, we'll make a brief hop on SR-244 to get to SR-149.
SR-149 will take us thru the Sam Houston National Forest, where we will find tree-canopied curves and twisties to your heart's delight until we reach Montgomery.
From Montgomery, we'll head east, probably on SR-105 to reach Papa's on the Lake, a spacious establishment conducive to culinary pursuits and gregarious behavior.

The route is approx. 130 miles, with the butt break in the middle. I started break-in of my Ninja on these roads, along with another 150 miles or more of similar roads the day after I bought it.

We can meet at 10:00 a.m. in Fulshear and allow an hour or so for tire-kicking, lie-swapping, and general meet-and-greet activities. A 10:00 SSU Should put us at Papa's (kinda sorta) around 3:00 p.m. on the back side of the lunch rush, with more time for socializing.

I think you'll find it to be a thoroughly enjoyable day!

There will be someone coming from Florida for this and he will be be doing somewhere around 500 miles.

I will be doing close to 300 miles myself.

I'll be on vacation with the family on the 13th. I'm not quite sure I'm up to the 300+ mile trip to the Houston area yet either. I'm still a newbie. I hope everyone has a really good time.

Unless the weather turns bad (again:mad:) I will be making this trip. The rain I had in my area on the 23rd made it impossible for me to leave. Rick - I'll be leaving on the 12th and if I can make it up to your area in time maybe we can ride around there for awhile.

Do you want to meet up in Lake Charles as was the plan before?

Lake Charles is cool but it depends on when I leave on the 12th. I don't want to get to LC and sit around so I may shoot up toward Alexandria if I have time.

Snake

From the I-10 alexandria/Hwy 165 exit is about 1 1/2 hr and about the halfay point on hwy 165 is the Grand Casino Caushatta. http://www.coushattacasinoresort.com/
and of course there are the 3 Casino's in Lake Charles. Either way if you come up to Alexandria you have a place to stay the night in the spare bedroom. Mi Casa es su Casa.

Since Ollie is from the Houston area he has graciously volunteered to map out a route starting from Fulshear going through some great twisties and stopping for a bite to eat at an eatery frequented by riders. He will post all the details.

I may try to make a camera mount for my new Nikon Coolpix, and then grab a video of some of the twisties out there.

I think the dealer by me has a few suction cup camera mounts I could use for a mount. I may resort to a DIY job. At least then people can see what we have to work with out here in Houston (which isn't much!).

I know i know, just hate having the bike at 9k or more rpms for hours on end. Get's on my nerves and just isn't fun :(

have you tried wearing earplugs when you ride? you could also regear the bike to lower highway cruising rpms.

Earplugs rock. I wore them once to try them out, and totally hate to ride without them now.

Put a 15 tooth front gear on there, and it will drop to about 8200 RPM at 70 mph indicated. That gets ride of the lovely 9K whine. :)

Oh Ollie:
Are there any campgrounds nearby? I would like to stay Saturday night and possibly leave out early friday and stay friday night.

I found this:

Stephen Austin State Park: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/stephen_f_austin_and_san_felipe/

State Park Reservations: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/park_reservations/

Lots of the state parks are pretty OK for camping. Watch out for the snakes and stuff :D

I can't speak for the accommodations personally. SF Austin State park isn't very far from Fulshear (about 20 mi.). You can take FM-1458 from I-10 to get there, and continue on in the same direction for a nice morning ride to Fulshear. Just follow 1458 on to FM-359, straight onto 359, and follow it to Fulshear. It doglegs in Brookshire.

Otherwise, you're looking for a cheap motel on the wsest side of Houston.

Uhhh, Snake . . .

A "Long Range" forecast for the Houston area would be like about an hour from now !!!

:rotflmao:

Around here, if you want to know about the weather, you just look out the window, because it will be different in 15 minutes . . .

BUT -- We MUST have EXCELLENT weather on the 13th !!!

That one would be easy to make ... maybe in the later fall? I'd be up for it. A bunch more from Matt's group live in the immediate area as well as Austin and Oklahoma, they may be interested too.

Sounds like a plan. We just have to start doing some early planning such as:
1) a place to meet
2) a route
3) accomadations if required for those traveling a good distance.
4) maybe something to do at night if people stay the night.
5) anything else we think of.
