Here's my 1994 ninjette. The mods were done by a previous owner who apparently was a bike mechanic and rebuilt the bike from the ground up before selling it to the guy I ended up buying it from. And yes, it is rather loud and deep throated for a ninjette with the 2-into-1 Yoshi exhaust.

I love the 08/09s.. you can't fault the way they look in any way.... I think that if I were to sell my 250 and get into something else it would be a 650R though.. the ZX6R is more money and doesnt offer the comfortable riding position that mine has...

the pre 08 ones have great power and stability though.. not sure if and when I will 'upgrade' to something else.. note that upgrade is a relative and somewhat sarcastic term..

Great thread. I'm honestly not a big fan of the newest generation. All show and no go IMHO. People who can't tell the difference between an '09 Ninja 250 and real super sport just don't know bikes. The brakes for one thing are a DEAD give away. I can spot that weak little single front rotor from a mile away :P

I gotta say, I do love the way the older bikes look. Technically, these aren't the classics though, that's the '86-'87 bikes. But I'll still contribute since I have one of the "old" ones. :D

This one's a bit old, but it's of Fury at White Sands National park. This is before I put on the seat cover which is in the second picture. The funny thing is, this is Fury's bad side!

So here's my 1995 250. I just snapped a quick picture after putting on the Muzzy, which sounds killer without being overly killer. I may add some more pictures later, but I'm pretty friggin lazy. Obviously I have done the fender elimination, flush mount signals, and it's got a double bubble windscreen. Some suspension work has been done, its a lot stiffer than stock, feels great to be honest. I rode a stock '07 250 and I couldn't believe how soft the suspension was. The 2007 also had 3x the miles of the 95, and it was just not nearly as clean as this bike. The picture from my cell phone doesn't do it justice; everyone thinks it's only a few years old when I tell them to guess its age hehe.

The bike has 6100 miles on it. It was in storage for over 10 years. The guy I bought it from bought it while it was in storage, "restored" it, taught his son how to ride on it and then sold it to me. Now I'm using it to build up my street chops (after a decade in the dirt) before ultimately moving to a 600 (liter bikes are just silly) 400ccs in the dirt was enough to control, I can't even imagine 1000 on the street. Anyways, heres my baby.

Edit: the purple wheels are stock. I get asked that a lot, lol.

Here's a picture of mine. It's 1989 Kawasaki Ninja 250 - the only year, as far as I know that came in white and red. It's mostly stock with a scottoiler system to keep the chain lubricated, Oxford Heaterz heated grips for those cold mornings, Works Performance rear shock, Traxxion Dynamics front forks, and a pair of Hippo Hands for blocking the wind/rain when its really cold.

The "mostly stock" is slowly changing more and more as time goes by and things get replaced/upgraded. I also keep track of maintenance and mileage on my Mileage Tracker Page (http://www.mileagetracker.org/showBike.php?id=961). The windshield has since been replaced with a euro shield from mikes shields (http://members.cox.net/michealmims/mikesshields.htm) and the front forks also replaced with a set rebuilt for me from Traxxion Dynamics. They put heavier springs, thicker oil, and a higher oil level. I'm also currently running Avon AM26 RoadRider tires unlike the Pirelli's that's in this picture.

Heres a couple of my "new" 2000.
I just bought the bike, carbs were clogged pretty bad, battery was shot, and the clutch wouldn't disengage. After a good day of fighting with it, and removing some of the body we got it running nice.
Right now I'm waiting on paperwork so I can register it, but I hope to have all that set in a week or two so I can ride a bit more than the little test ride i took after we got everything working today.

Thanks and no you're not crazy, those are 2006 front turn signals. The bike came with aftermarket "truck cab lights" installed which worked okay but looked like crap so I bought and installed those. I've also replaced the original rear ones with the newer 2006 style since this picture was taken.

Here's my '01. First bike for me. I replaced the Dunlops straight away with Pirelli MT75's. Replaced the crappy LP almost-flush-mount signals with KIA front's(these are sweet, BTW), and changed out the rear pod lenses from red to amber KIA lenses (previous owner had already moved signals to the pods and chopped the fender). Wind screen had a campus parking sticker that fudged up the screen from the PO, and I can't remove the gunk no matter what I use, so I'm looking to pickup a Zero G DB to replace it, mostly for aesthetics... Just washed and Iced in this photo. Doesn't look too bad I suppose....

By 2nd gen, do you mean '08+ ? Because if so, you are mistaken. Pre-gens require a wrench and a screwdriver to adjust valves; for new-gens, a micrometer, spreadsheet, and depending on how your valves are at the start, maybe proficiency with Windows Excel.

BlackRain
July 27th, 2009, 08:39 AM
Actually there are 4 Gens of Ninja 250's. I noticed the break down on this forum is wrong.

1st 83-84 Japan only
2nd 86-87
3rd 88-07
4th 08+

So for the sake of the US market there are three generations of 250's. I know bikes and maintenance.

Alex
July 27th, 2009, 11:22 AM
This started as a new-gen site, and from that point of view every ninjette is either a new-gen or a pre-gen. Turns out a whole bunch of folks started joining and contributing that owned bikes other than the new-gen. Which is great! :) I grouped the 86-87 and the 88-07 gens into one combined area, as there was never going to be enough content on the 86-87 bikes alone. As far as I can tell, less than 0.2% of our members have one of those 86/87 bikes.

We'll have a terminology issue whenever kawi updates this current gen, but if history is our guide, we have quite awhile before we'll have to worry about that. ;)

I really never understood the rims being different colors like purple or red or white. Like cars never came in different color rims but why did they do this to motorcycles? The color of the bikes are nice and more modern especially when considering some of these bikes were produced in the 80's.

beowuff
July 27th, 2009, 12:36 PM
I really never understood the rims being different colors like purple or red or white.

I think of it like hub caps on cars. You can't put a hubcap on a regular bike, so coloring the rim is a way to personalize the bike. Make it more appealing, just like hubcaps on cars.

We'll have a terminology issue whenever kawi updates this current gen, but if history is our guide, we have quite awhile before we'll have to worry about that. ;)

Hmmm.... Maybe when they do another redesign, we can start calling what are newgens now.... Mid-gens? :rotflmao:

My '07. Stock ninjette save for Diablo tires, KIA flush mounts, extra brake/running lights, Bikemaster convex mirrors, and 2-stage fogger nitrous kit. Alright......skip the nitrous part, but it really does have blind spot mirrors.:p
