Öhlins is recalling its TTX36 aftermarket rear shock absorbers. The recall affects 964 shocks in the U.S. including some batches of the TTX GP, TTX RT and TTX36 MKII, produced from Nov. 9, 2013 to Feb. 20, 2015.

According to Öhlins, the piston-shaft nut in some shocks may come loose, resulting in a loss of damping and potentially causing the shock absorber to come apart. Öhlins explains it used a different method to clean top-out spring guides that resulted in higher friction. This prevents the piston from reaching its intended final position, full metal-to-metal contact with the guide.

Öhlins will notify owners and dealers will secure the piston-shaft nut to the proper torque. Owners are advised not to ride their motorcycles until the remedy has been completed.
