I put a Muzzy on my '95, and it seems like its hanging at a lower angle than other exhaust pipes i've seen. It other words, it seems like the angle is closer to parallel to the ground, or that its flattened out. Could someone with a pre-08 Muzzy post a close up pic of where the canister bolts to the passenger foot pegs? I think this is the issue. The bolt was actually too small (short) to even put the passenger pegs back on. The instructions were less than helpful too.

You know that Muzzy made two different systems for the older bikes. One they list for 1986-2000 and the other for 2001-2007. I've asked the Muzzy rep. what was different and he just said that Kawasaki changed the mounting point. I still don't get it because I have a lot of 250s 1989-2007 and all the exhaust parts interchange. I've seen bikes with the "flat" muffler mounting that you describe. I can only assume that it is the Muzzy "early model" style. I can't tell you what year exhaust I have as I bought it used. Since it came from a 2001 bike I assume it is the later style exhaust. I love the look of it.

The early Muzzy w/ the flatter muffler does not drag the ground as easily as the new one. The midpipe is what actually hits. But this is only w/ sticky race tires.

I think the new one looks better, but the midpipe bend sticks out too far for racing. IMHO

BTW - the Muzzy is the ONLY pipe we will put on the old gens. It makes the BEST power.

I took a picture from the rear, from the side, and I tried to get a close up on the bolt assembly. My bike is a '95, hence the awesome purple and turquoise color scheme. I don't know if I screwed up on the install or what, but other pictures I have seen of Muzzys have the canister angled higher.

here's the bolt assembly. It would have been impossible to get the bolt clear through the foot rest plus the pipe mount. It's just way too short.

The muffler clamp should be on the same side of your hanger.

Also, I have never seen a muzzy supplied hanger on the 250. Usually that clamp (both ends) go to the inside of the passenger peg/ex hanger. Then a bolt thru that.

That should pull the can up a little for you. A little force is perfectly fine to get it where you want, then bolt it down.

Sorry I can't tell you anything about the installation.....i bought the bike this way. But this angle should give you a rough idea of a typical installation.

Your bike looks a little weird to me in the first pic. It looks like the back end might be lowered a bit. Oh, and where the heck is your kickstand? :confused:

It does have a stiffer rear shock, I don't remember exactly what it is. Maybe it lowered it a bit? Seat height seems normal in compared to stock bikes i've ridden tho.

The kickstand is camera shy, haha I don't know why its not there.

Thanks R&T, I'll try that tomorrow.. at least I'll try. I think I tried to do that first off, but like I said the bolt was way too short to fit through everything. I obviously don't need to use the hanger at all right?

Thanks for the pic flash. It looks like you have the round canister? I got the oval because it was $40 cheaper than the round canister, plus with the oval I could choose stainless, titanium, or carbon fiber. The round canister only comes aluminum I think. I tried to do some research and couldn't find any performance difference between the two. :confused20:
