July 12 is my scheduled day off, so let's get another Sunday group ride up ACH together! We had a nice turn out on June 21st, so hopefully we'll have more people show up this time around!

Arrive: 8am at Shell

We'll head out by 8:15am to beat the massive crowds.

Stay hungry so you can enjoy breakfast at Newcombs!

Route from Jay's Shell to Newcomb's Ranch.

Lets go a bit farther this time though after breakfast, or maybe go farther up and then stop and eat on the way back...

I'm in south orange county, anyone know what the traffic is generally like on the 5 at that time of day? If its not heinous, I might consider it:outlaw2:

Hi Chad,

Since you'll leave very early in the morning I'd imagine you'll have the entire freeway to yourself when you head out to Jay's Shell station.

Mike: Since its much warmer than the last time we went, I'm down to go further.

For anyone that's coming for sure, please copy/paste and add yourself to the following list if you're not on it so we can get an accurate head-count.

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know next week if I decide to go or not. I don't have a lot of free way experience under my belt as I enjoy taking surface streets. Am a little nervous about spending 50+ miles on the 5, but I'll try to work up the brass for it :)

I'm in Cypress, and I take the 605 to the 5. 2 weeks ago when we rode, traffic was light, I didn't have the road to my self, but it was really light.

Something else came up that same day and I may have to bail. I will post on here later on in the week when I know for sure.

Asecretninja, freeway riding is really not that hard, although it is faster. Main things is to keep watch on all the cars and make sure you are not in any blindspots. I learned the hard way don't ride beside any cars.

I'm not commenting on the lane splitting.

I am down to ride with you for a ways if you're not up for making the commute all by yourself. I can meet you at the i-5 junction of the 91, or something like that...lmk if you're down, hopefully I can help you out with the later half of your freeway riding that day...Just remember, all your distances are longer at that speed-braking, visual scanning, etc. Not that there will be any early sunday morning, but especially in Southern California, watch out for stopped traffic on the freeway. People have a tendency to stomp the gas then mash the brake. I almost went into the back of a minivan my first time on the interstate on my crf230 because I got up to speed and then the car ahead of me jammed the brakes-I hadn't practiced any lane splitting either, so I just skidded and missed the bumper by about 6 inches. Ride safe!

Sorry guys, I'm bailing this time. Right now I have a splitting headache and a sore throat, (Swine flu strikes ) Gonna have a wait and see my other plans will pan out. Let me know when the next ride is.

Even though ninjabrewer bailed, and there's only 3 of us still on the list, the ride is still on right?

Hey Chris,

Hope you feel better.

Alex,

I'm going for sure, regardless of how many people show up. I ride up there solo all the time so it's no big deal if no one shows up. If you want to ride tomorrow I'll be at the north side of Jay's Shell, so I'll see you tomorrow at 8am.

How was it?

There was only 3 of us, me, Diablo250 and Ken. We went about 5 miles up and then got turned back by CHP because there was an accident. Don't know what happened exactly but we saw a tow truck blocking the road so I assume someone went over the edge.

Ken decided to take off so me and Diablo went riding in Malibu.
