Wait... you're telling me that just this exhaust added almost 5whp to this bike?

Tell me yes and I will be buying.

BTW, don't lie. lol

kazam58
June 27th, 2009, 01:33 PM
With the addition of a jet kit and a little bit of tuning know how, yes, it probably did. However, these exhausts are for the new-gens...

Obsidian
June 27th, 2009, 01:37 PM
Customization is nothing new to me. But even the AP or whatever exhaust with a full jet kit and pods only added 1whp.

You're telling me that just this exhaust will add 5whp?

kazam58
June 27th, 2009, 01:59 PM
The AP exhaust also gets 30+ hp: http://www.areapnolimits.com/images/product/250r_08_dyno_big.gif

This is the one I got.

Is there that much of a difference in our engines?

kkim
June 27th, 2009, 02:41 PM
that's almost a 2 hp gain. if you read the development thread Area P went through several configurations before settling on the final kit/jetting and settled on one that had a huge gain in the midrange for the pregens. take a look at the torque curve in the chart you posted.

sorry for the OT, Matt. :o

Obsidian
June 27th, 2009, 02:51 PM
I do appreciate it. I saw it was pretty much 1 3/4 of a hp gain, but that isn't enough for me to want to get it. I see the very nice gain across the board there but... well I'm just being picky.

ztrack157
September 18th, 2009, 09:02 AM
I have 10 on order for the undertail. I've been a little busy so haven't crunched numbers yet. For the undertail if you want one and a specific color you'll need to order it in advance because I will othr wise just order set numbers and you can wait if your color is bought out.

Re: the undertail....are the LED's meant to serve as turn signals or marker lights or depends on how you wire them? Would LED's flash normally with stock wiring? Your last picture shows signal lights on a stalk..you'd have to drill holes for them, right and would the stock lights with their attachment area work ? Do you access to the signal lights used in that picture ? Lastly, what would serve as the license plate light..?..

How much total for an 08 Blue undertail..understand I need to prepay..? I could expect it about when ?

Thanks for fielding all these questions.

ztrack157
September 19th, 2009, 07:57 PM
License plate light is on you to find. I recommend targa. The leds serve as turn signals and need a resistor unless you wire them in line with the stock signals. They shouldn't be used as the sole signals but can be if you choose. We provide the plate holder and the undertail with integrated signals. The rest is left to your own devices. I still need to see one in person to give a good recommendation.

Keep eyes peeled for the Sportisimoto Jet Kit. I am waiting on the copy of the dyno sheet. But showed gains over a DJ stage 2 kit throughout the entire range. Price will be in the $55-$65 Shipped price range. Includes 2 needles, Size 40 pilot jets, 5 sets of jets 98, 100, 102, and not sure yet two out of the following three 105,108,110.

Are those Keihin MJ sizes/equivalents? If so, you might want to replace the 98s with 96 or 112s, as the bike comes stock w/98 Keihins.

Sounds like a good deal to me. :)

ztrack157

Interesting routing. Looks mighty close to the coolant tank and the hose coming out of it. I wonder what all that heat will do in that location... there's also no insulation on the fairing near there.

I like undertails for the sole reason that I think they look cool, but I'm constantly reminded of how a bike is a whole system with lots of pieces that interrelate. TANSTAAFL.

It'll be interesting to follow this.

Matt, I noticed that all the bikes with a sportisi hugger and swingarm cover have rerouted the brake line up and over the outside of the cover. Is it possible, perhaps by drilling an appropriately sized hole, to instead install the cover so that the brake line continues to run down along the swingarm and thus remains hidden? I love the look of your cover/hugger combo but I think that the repositioning of the brake line makes it look a bit janky.

Its an eventual possibility but not a priority right now. Unlike Akra, yoshi, and other companies who make exhaust for other bikes we relie solely on the 250 market it is better to stick to one design and one make for the time being since we don't have sales from other bike styles to float the small scale ninja market.

So we dyno'd the exhaust with mixed results. We are looking for a stock bike to test it on rather than the race bike that we used since it is built for a different setup. This should yield better results and help in the final tweaking. We lost 1hp on the bike overall (from the high of 33.4hp) but at the same time improved the fuel mileage since we went from a 108 main jet to a 98 with a pod filter it is a decent compromise but still want to tweak for the best of both worlds. I'll keep you all updated.

divingtigger
January 6th, 2010, 11:30 AM
They come with all the plastic pieces....would be nice if you only had a frame and nothing else, but how many of thost pieces do we really need anyways.....and from the pics it looks like they are cheaply made....or cheaply painted

ztrack157
January 6th, 2010, 03:25 PM
Those are motogp rip off schemes. JG they are race fairings and are intended for that purpose. They are streetable with modification. They line up preetty easily after figuring it out. I had to add a ureathane spacer on each side for the lower mounts. I also had to cut some out on the kickstand side so the stand wouldn't press the body work against the chain. And as with any hand laid fiberglass product there is always a slight variation between kits they are never exactly 100% spot on but come very close.
I literally bought the second kit ever made. I'm happy with it. And now that the fiber glass guys have about 2 dozen of these bad boys under their belt their quality (which was really good to begin with) and fitment is better than mine is.

OK time to choose. We either have to go with a design for low to mid range power or top end power. Just like with our other exhausts the VR6 is better for low to mid the VR is better on the top. I am waiting on the dyno sheets. The VRX is going to get you better mileage than other full systems either way and still make great hp numbers. But I need some input.

I see both being good. But I still want to see the dyno sheets. Our other exhausts are super close overall. If both dynos are close its gonna be a coin flip.

January 17th, 2010, 09:07 AM

ztrack157
January 18th, 2010, 10:23 PM
Still waiting on the sheets. We're trying one more pipe design to try to get the max out of the system. The system will require a header wrap near the coolant tank. I am debating on selling it with the exhaust at the $499 price or dropping the price to $475 so the customer has their choice of header wraps.

Ken08Ninja
January 18th, 2010, 11:23 PM
Matt, what about Jet Hot or someother ceramic coating. That should keep the heat in the pipe.
Posted via Mobile Device

ztrack157

its to close to even gamble but if the customer chooses they can do it. I don't have the ability to ceramic coat.

2WheelGuy
January 19th, 2010, 12:16 AM
I'd sell the pipe with the header wrap if it needs it. Otherwise people will install it without the wrap then bitch when things start melting. Charge a few bucks more and save yourself some headaches.

Ya that's what I'd think too....there's no one over there that will ceramic wrap?? I wouldn't worry about giving any options on the wrap just do it in one colour and there is no worry about it being put on, not put on right or any other issue that might come up, with the fairings on you won't be able to see the wrapped section anyways. The only thing I would do is wrap the majority of the pipe that is running inside the fairings that way you won't get any surprise issues down the road from the heat coming in contact in other areas that aren't so obvious, but I guess that is something that I could do once I get the pipe

austexjg

Will any additional mods need to be made when adding the new exhaust - rejet kit? shim?
I too would add the wrap to the price.

ztrack157
January 19th, 2010, 10:48 AM
On a stock bike there is a chance only a shim will be needed in most of the US. Since we went from a 108 to a 98 main jet with an open pod filter in Indonesia (typically they run high jetting in their climate). We will have a recommended jetting start point which owners can then tweak to their climate.
