THE BBC is reportedly close to signing road racer Guy Martin as a Top Gear presenter.

BBC bosses are said to be in advanced talks with prospective new presenters, with TT star Martin top choice along with former model Jodie Kidd and actor Philip Glenister.

The trio have been among those tipped as likely to replace Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as presenters of the flagship BBC Two show.

The show’s co-creator Andy Wilman, who has quit the series, was overheard describing the new line-up while having lunch with Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay in Sussex, according to the Sunday Express.

May and Hammond decided against signing new contracts after Clarkson was suspended for allegedly punching a producer.

Martin is set to compete in this year's TT, North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix, but has already indicated his intention to scale down his racing commitments in 2016.

The North Lincolnshire racer presented Channel 4's Speed with Guy Martin, in which he attempted to break unusual speed records.

Kidd currently presents Channel 5’s The Classic Car Show while Glenister is best known for his role as a police detective in the BBC One series Life on Mars.
