We just picked up a brand-new Vespa GTS 300 IE Super and sold our 1989 Honda Elite 80. The Elite 80 just wasn't quite enough power for commuting around the city, and after our last 4 hour ride on the Ninja my wife said that she'd rather ride next to me than behind me.

Sad to see the Elite go, as it was my first bike and it's a blast to ride, but it went to a good home. I don't think we would have really ever ridden it with the Vespa and Ninjette next to it.

We did really well on the sale, I bought the Elite for $730 two years ago and commuted on it for a year before getting the Ninjette. Then I gave it to my wife and she commuted on it for a year before getting the Vespa. I had that bike totally taken apart a few times over the years and upgraded a bunch of parts. Sold it today for $750!

The Vespa is super nice - it has fuel injection, ABS, and traction control. 280cc and tops out somewhere around 90-100 mph. Very stable-feeling and good on the highway.

My old boss had one for his commute. I used to bust his balls about it. One day as we were leaving work, he asked of I wanted to race him from the World Trade Center (Twin Towers) to Grand Central. I was on a Fireblade (900cc). Boy, did I get my ass whipped so bad. I never trash talked after that.

Pretty neat, my wife keeps talking about learning to ride and what not but never thought about a 250 sized scoot. Pretty neat.

It's a blast to ride. We had an exciting moment yesterday when taking it for a spin and she wanted to test out the emergency stopping power at a yellow light. I got to practice a REAL panic stop.

Wife and I rented a Vespa 300 in Majorca and Barcelona last year, following couple of stages of Vuelta a Espania..

With two of us on board, 300 had no problem going up the long hills and keep up with Barcelona hwy traffic at 100-120 kmh... but then again, it was a rental.. I just pin the throttle and go.

Took some nice twistie canyons from Palma to Formentor:

It's still hard to imagine that "a lil Vespa" that all the little hipsters ride in NYC have more HP than my 250 =(

This is the worst. When a scooter blows by you because they can squeeze into some impossibly small space.

It has a few more cc's, but it's a thumper so it actually has less HP.
