Y'know, it truly is awesome.

But for 184 large I'd rather have a Yamaha R1M, a BMW S1000RR, a Ducati of some description, a Lightning electric superbike, a BMW R-nineT for when I'm feeling like a hipster, a different fun street bike for every day of the week and a big fat mortgage payment. All at the same time.

The USA model is only 100 hp whereas the EU and AU versions are 160 hp (with optional 215 hp kit, also not for USA.) Who is going to blow $184,000 on a 100 hp motorcycle (other than collectors). What adouglas said, R1M or S1000RR.

Should be able to mess with the ecu to unleash those restricted ponies. But who will be brave enough to mess with a 184k bike.

I'll take an R1, S1000RR, and Panigale 1299 and many many track days for that cash. :p

Actually, when you think about it, 184k isn't alot of money if the only difference between this and the actual race bike is a detuned engine. The engine can be brought up to par fairly easily and if all the other components are already there then you are paying close to what an actual race bike costs but it is streetable. I realise that most people don't have 184k to spend on a street bike, but some people do.

It's not the only difference. Just google the model.

I am willing to bet $100 that they will sell every single one they make.

I think Honda is betting that people will hear "MotoGP bike you can own" and lose their sense enough to cough up the cash. I'm sure they'll find enough rich idiots.

I doubt there are actually many "rich idiots". They wouldn't stay rich for too long. The collectors market on motorcycles is huge (since you can't afford to collect cars anymore).

I remember Ducati buiding a single that now is so collectible and expensive you can't get one.

While I agree the cost of this thing is RI-FRICKIN-DICULOUS; the 100HP US thing to me is just numbers game. Look at the RPM/HP figure. I bet its simply a "hey what RPM is this thing legal with noise compliance and junk" and lets put a handicap on it electronically.

The thing that is unacceptable (other than price) is the lack of being able to buy the sports kit in the US. Stupid. Sell it as an HRC kit for competition use and don't look nearly as stupid.

The bike, it seems, is pretty close to the RCV1000R which was what - $1,000,000 - or something. $184k is ALOT cheaper than that and looking at it from that perspective is a little different.

Honestly comparing this thing to a R1M or a Panigale R is not the right comparison. Whether we want it to be or not. The only real comparison is the Demso and while its three times are costly as the D16 - its really the only comparison that is close. IF, and I am not holding my breath, Honda sold a V4 production superbike with the normal high end bike stuff - OTC Ohlins and Brembo bits in a mass produced chassis like the Yamaha for $25K. Then it wouldn't even be a question, that bike is for everyone - while this bike is for the super stupid rich. The problem is people expected this bike to be both.........
