Thanks everyone.

Yup, dropped on the left while it was in the first owner's DRIVEWAY at a stand-still. The driveway was sloped so it slid a little bit ...doh

Haha CC, that corner is dangerous.. it's a blind decreasing radius corner that's way too narrow for two way traffic.. soccer moms bomb through it all the time taking up both "lanes" - I exit through the other side... but yeah, the first couple days, all I did was practice in my neighborhood doing tight turns, and other slow speed manuevers.

Hopefully not that much. My insurance for my Daytona only went up $150 per year. :D

Nice 636! I really like that color too. (A lot more than the green anyways, but don't tell Kkim)

for 4 years kawi have two bikes in the middleclass range the zx6r and the zx6rr

the 6r had an 636 cc engine for improved torque, midrange, and street manner - it is and was a fantastic engine. they offerred te 6RR with a 599cc motor for it to be legal in the classes that were 600cc and under

With competition from Honda's CBR600F4i, Suzuki's GSX-R600, and Yamaha's YZF-R6 getting more aggressive, Kawasaki decided to make an unusual move for the 2003 model year. They increased the capacity of the traditional 600 cc (37 cu in) motor to 636 cc (38.8 cu in). For riders who needed bikes for displacement-restricted racing, Kawasaki also made available a limited production 599 cc (36.6 cu in) version called the Ninja ZX-6RR, but the 636 cc (38.8 cu in) ZX-6R would be their main mass production middleweight sport bike.

That seems like it would cost a fortune in R&D. I know from doing product development as a job, anytime we can kill off or merge products together we're happy. Less products means more focus on our existing products and less resources/training needed to maintain them.

Well in 2003 Kawasaki made a whole crap load of internal changes and really went all out with a lot of their bike designs....it was around this time that they made the ZX10R as well...and the original 10R was freakin' mental from what I've read.

It is a very light bike! The one I test rode was amazingly light and agile. It is still quite a bit more difficult to turn than the 250, but that's to be expected. Biggest problem for me was that it's about 3 inches taller! Hehehe..... For short people like me, that doesn't work out too well.

Hey Arthur! Send some of those beautiful prices this way!!!!

Ive seen the difference in power on paper, but how does that jump in power feel, if the 250r was your first bike, would you say that riding it prepared you pretty well to handle the 636, I'm thinking about getting one for my next bike, sometime early next year, as long as I can afford it.

I would say (From my VERY limited experience) that riding the 250 did teach me how to ride, and how to handle the 636. On the opposite end, you have to be sure that you understand that it has MUCH more power than the 250. :D My very major, dangerous, and embarrassing experience on the 636 proves this. I was on the highway and found myself in the wrong lane close to my exit. I saw a hole in traffic up ahead of me, and proceeded to use some of the power of the bike. In approximately 2 seconds I was going 110 mph, 45 over the limit and WAAAAAY faster than I wanted to go. It scared the crap outta me at the time, but when I though about it, I should've expected that from gunning it in 6th gear on a supersport! I just didn't understand that the power jump from a 250 to a 600 is really MASSIVE. Sure, riding it is the same. Throttle, brakes, shifting, etc. is well learned on the 250, but the power jump, if you've never ridden the bigger bike before, is fairly surprising. Be careful when you get on the bigger bike for the first time. It'll take you places you really don't want to go really quickly.

Those of you that have quite a bit more experience, please add to my explanation if I missed something! :D

Hm, yup, that's what the specs say.. although some mags have reported 370ish lb dry, I don't know where they're getting that weight from.

I don't know how to explain it, it just "feels" light.. and I've been pushing this bike uphill, downhill (my driveway has a massive slope) with NO issues.. it feels the same as my 250R.

The seat height is taller so I can't sit on it and wheel around the bike anymore, I have to jump off and manually push/pull it around and it's very manageable. Maybe it's a lower center of gravity thing? The way the bike carries its weight? I dunno, it just feels light all around.

The 250R was my first bike... honestly, I can't imagine learning how to ride on teh 636.. it's too much machine. Plus, I'm short so not being able to flat foot the bike would've been detrimental to my learning experience.

The difference is massive.. before, I had to gun it from a stop (I live in a hilly area) and shift like three times to keep up with the flow and now I rarely go above 2nd for city riding and 3rd/4th for highway.. I LOVE the instant throttle response and the suspension is world's beyond the 250R.. it just absorbs everything and stays stable.

Turning the bike was harder initially vs. the 250, where you if you jsut looked at where you want to go, the bike seemed to telepathically know what you're thinking and lean that way, on the 600 you ahve to make a slight effort to tip the bike over.. once you get used to it (took me about 20 minutes), it's not bad at all and is really flickable in its own way.

I love how planted the whole bike feels vs. the 250 and the stability on the highway.. much better wind protection and it doesn't feel like the bikes going to blow up on me ;) Soudns strange, but it's just more comfortable riding this bike in the city and on the highway.. even with the extreme seating position

5'6".. the seat is about 1.5~2" higher.. the body is also wider making it harder to reach the ground.

From what I've been told, the newer ZX6R seats have been getting lower / narrower.. iE: '03-'04 636's have higher seats than '05'-'06 636, which ahve higher seats than '07-'08, etc.

I'm only 5'4''.
I can barely touch the ground with both feet (toes) on the 250.
If the 636 is taller, does it mean I can't ever upgrade?:(
I like the 05-06 the best.
The rear of the 07-08 looks weird to me.

I remember reading somewhere that the stock sttings on your bike have a jumper that retards the engine. Basically you wont have the max power till your in 6th so a person I met with a zx model said you can get a mod to trick your bike into thinking its always in 6th and you have full power in all gears.

Haha, I agree.. the '05-'06 looks absolutely badass; shame they got rid of the 636 engine.. the low end torque is better for street riding (and it's still got the screaming top end).

I'm sure you could just get lowering links .. there's some that can drop as little as 0.5".. shouldn't affect your handling much. The Vortex ones can drop 1.25" and you can shave off a good 1.5" or so from the seat.. should be enough to tip toe for ya?

I got some lowering links but am holding off on installing it, I've been getting pretty comfortable not being able to flatfoot and don't htink I'llneed it.

I almost bought a 636 "cheater" instead of my first 599.
The seating position just wasn't that great for me. Then again i just picked up a 07 r6 which quite frankly is the most uncomfortable bike i have ever sat on. I feel like i am being lunged forward.

the bikes dry weight should be much lighter then 370 the one i was looking at was a 03 and its claimed weight was 355 dry. Though i do pefer the non rounded version of the 636 tis a nice find! enjoy!
