PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association is pleased to announce the AMA Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule for the 2016 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL.

The qualifying program takes place in 33 states, starting with the 54 Area Qualifiers that begin in February and run through the end of May. The 13 Regional Championships will run in eight major geographical regions throughout the United States, taking place in late May and through the month of June.

"Together with the AMA we have assembled an Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule that will minimize the travel time for our rider base," said Tim Cotter, Director of MX Sports, the promoting partner. "It has been the goal to provide Area Qualifier opportunities within 150 miles from every rider, and in most cases we were able to accomplish this goal. The Area Qualifier and Regional Championship organizers are the backbone of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, and we continue to see improvements in both the facilities and organizational skills of the promoters that participate in the program."

The AMA Area Qualifiers serve as the first step in qualifying for the world's largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship. The AMA Regional Championships then serve as the next step to seed riders into the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a Regional Championship are eligible to race the amateur national in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., the week of Aug. 1-6.

"With so many outstanding race tracks and AMA motocross organizers to choose from, you would think the selection process for the Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule would be an easy task, but I can assure you it is not," said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. "All that work pays off, however, because the racers are treated to exceptional tracks and facilities in great locations all across America. With the schedule now complete, the AMA and our promoting partner, MX Sports, can move our focus on working with the organizers to provide the best race experience possible at each of these events."

This year's lineup again includes many historic tracks, from Unadilla MX and High Point Raceway in the Northeast, to Washougal in the Northwest. The tour also will return to many other favorites such as the Southeast's Muddy Creek Raceway, RedBud MX in the Mid-East and Thunder Valley MX Park in the South Central region.

New additions to the 2016 AMA Regional Championship schedule include Texas' Oak Hill Raceway in the South Central region and Wisconsin's Motozone in the North Central region. Both tracks have played an integral part of the AMA national program for years serving as area qualifiers, but will now host the youth regionals for their specified region.
