The 2016 Suzuki SV650. A bit Vanilla, but thoroughly competent...

The SV650 returns to the Suzuki (http://www.fasterandfaster.net/search/label/Suzuki) line-up for 2016, and again, it seems like the ideal machine for anyone who's just getting started with bikes. The engine is a 645cc V-twin that has been thoroughly updated for 2016 (Suzuki say there are more than 60 new and redesigned components in there...), with power and torque going up to 75bhp and 64Nm, with 73.5mpg in terms of fuel economy. The bike also features the first use of Suzuki's Low RPM Assist - when the bike is being launched or when running at low rpm, sensors activate an 'Idle Speed Control' system, which raises engine rpm slightly for a smoother launch and easier operation in the lower rev range. There's also a new exhaust system, radiator, full LCD instrument panel and ABS as standard.

Suzuki (http://www.fasterandfaster.net/search/label/Suzuki) engineers have worked on bringing the 2016 SV650's weight down to below 200kg, and the bike is 8kg lighter compared to the old model. There are some design changes as well - nothing dramatic, but enough to keep the bike looking contemporary, if a bit vanilla. If you like the new SV650's low-key styling and general all-purpose usability and practicality, you will find one in Suzuki showrooms from March 2016 onwards.
