View Full Version : Smaller exhaust on a 300? (Like the 650)
DanteCoal January 20th, 2016, 08:24 PM So I'm in the process of buying a 2016 Ninja 300 this week, and was thinking down the road about future mods and such. I'm curious if there's a way (or a manufacturer) that makes an exhaust similar to the 650s? I prefer that short, tucked under look to the big fishtail stock on the 300s.
toEleven January 21st, 2016, 09:20 AM If you're willing to pay for custom work, I have no doubt it's doable. I don't know that it's advisable though - exhaust length isn't typically arbitrary.
I haven't seen any off the shelf models that exit at that point (roughly adjacent to the mounting point of the mid pipe), but I can't claim encyclopedic knowledge of all ninjette exhaust options. I do recall seeing a pretty thorough list somewhere on this forum though. I'll see if I can find it. *EDIT* I was thinking of this list (https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showpost.php?p=993384&postcount=37), which is manufacturers for the 250. The 300 exhausts I've encountered are all a subset of this 33 company list. Some are certainly smaller than stock, but I wouldn't equate any to the 650.

HoneyBadgerRy January 21st, 2016, 10:54 AM With very little modding I'm sure you could cut a few inches off of the stock header (or really any header) then slide the slip on into the fairing a little and use heat tape to protect the fairing. The slipon shouldn't be to hot, and it should help with the look, while not being as loud as a comparably short slipon.

this is mine.
HoneyBadgerRy January 21st, 2016, 05:02 PM You wanted it to look like this correct?

BernawanFR January 21st, 2016, 07:08 PM Well it is pretty much doable, but finding the shop that is able to do it is gonna be hard...
Here's the example of the 650'ish exhaust you are looking for, I think
DanteCoal January 22nd, 2016, 01:54 PM Darn, from what I'm seeing here, and from some more research (thanks all for the links and names!) I don't think I'll be able to get look I'm aiming for.
I'll just have to shop around a bit for whatever is the smallest and quietest. ^_^

The exhaust of the 650 is not shorter than the 300's, the length traveled by the exhaust gases is more or less the same.
It is just a traditional motorcycle exhaust that has been bent to take a Z shape.

So in theory, if I take the headers and muffler from a 650 they should just fit straight onto a 300 with no mods, save for maybe a new or adjusted bracket??

Erm...I don't think that's even possible, the gasket diameter between 300 and 650 is different, and I think it just won't fit at all
I suppose HR-1 slipon exhaust fits with your liking
DanteCoal January 23rd, 2016, 06:27 PM Yeah, I was at the dealer today and was looking at them side by side. I ~could~ make it work, but not without a lot of trouble, modifying the fairing on the 300, and modifying the frame. Not something I want to do, so instead I'll just look into something smaller than the current tail on it.
Thanks again all for your help!

Dsheumaker March 14th, 2017, 07:43 AM This is the Smallest i could make it... definitely not the quietest haha
DanteCoal March 15th, 2017, 07:55 PM Haha, I wound up going with the Coffman Shorty exhaust, I'm honestly loving the look of it, and the sound is much better than the sewing machine noise the OEM comes with. I still drool over some of the exhausts that just blend into the bike, but I suppose if I want much smaller, I'm going to have to pony up the cash for an electric motorcycle. =P
