Got my 1st speeding ticket today. 75 in a 55. The fine isn't that bad at only $75 including court costs. Couldn't be upset because i knew it was well over due.
In a car i've always been given warnings, guess on a supersport that won't be happening anymore. I looked at the fine list and not wearing a seatbelt was $55.
I was really expecting 20 over to be more than it is.

Maybe i should've stayed on the 250.

To me that's crap.

You're in a car: "Just be sure to slow down sir, have a nice day."

You're on a bike: "License and registration please. Sign here please, and make sure to pay the fine on time or legal actions will be taken."

Sounds like prejudice to me. Everyone makes a big fuss over a bike speeding and stereotype all bikes and bikers to be that way. Yet on the highways here I nearly get run over by sedans doing 90mph cutting in and out of traffic on the highway alot of times without looking or signaling. But no one seems to care about that but us bikers. And the rest of the driving world doesn't seem to care what we think.

Ya I almost got hit by an asshole in a lambo last time i was riding in LA. Then he had the heart to flip me off like it was my fault. I was on a hayabusa and could have done something about it but I am about twice his size so no fun in that.

SS prejudice ... I see it all the time here in Gastonia. All the 250 riders seem to be safe from it though.
One of our local officers rides a 250 on his off days ... must be the reason ...

You can still do triple digit speeds in the 250, it just may take a little longer getting there.

I just got my first speeding ticket on a motorcycle the other day too..80 in a 55, he wrote me a warning for the "stunt" I pulled, or so he called it, when I went into the right turn lane, and then cut back into the lane after I passed all the waiting cars, just b4 I rocketed up to 80 mph...It was night time and the road ahead, a US route, was a wide open drag strip....If I waited behind the cars, they would have definitely created a rolling road block, like they always do...So he just wrote me a ticket for speeding, and was asking me all types of questions about the bike...I'm not eligible for the traffic safety school, which would keep it off my driving record, because I have a CDL license..Does that make sense???? I was on a motorcycle on my free time..
I'm layed off and dont even have a job...

I was passing also. Went by his trap just as i got back in line.
He noted this on my ticket,so i thought about appearing to court to see if they might drop or reduce the charge.

I have been lucky the few times that I have been speeding past a cop. So far they just keep going and don't turn around to get me.

Wait until you see your Insurance Bill

Downhill with a 100MPH tailwind.

Get the attorney to have it dropped or reduced (changed to someting besides speeding) it will help you save on the Insurance increase and points on your license.

I'll take a $95 dollar ticket, and walk away with my life....Rather then running and possibly killing myself....If I was on the interstate and the cop hit the lights, and was a ways behind me, I'd probably open it up....

cool... then we could see you on the 6pm news as the high speed chase was being filmed by the news helicopter.

I wonder what the fine would be at that point, not to mention jail time?

I'd be out of sight, b4 he could even pick up his mic to call in a highspeed chase...

unless you live in a no chase state, then you have nothing to worry about.

Even if i'd thought about during something this STUPID , i have the only CP Blue ZX-6R in the area , so they would just knock on my door with bracelets in hand.

California seems to have alot of highspeed chases, Chicago isn't like that, I've never even seen a Police helicopter here....

Just some wise words of advise before you even think about out running a traffic stop:
"You can out-run motorcop, but you can't out-run Motorola"
The law enforcement can call ahead and have some friends waiting for a more formal Meet & Greet at the end of your ride.

In VA, both those speeding incidents above would be reckless driving tickets. Which is a class 1 misdemeanor, upon which you're either arrested and taken to jail during the stop or you're issued a non-waivable summons (ie, you MUST show up to court). $500-1000 fine and up to 1 year in jail. At 90+ in FFX, Arlington, or PWC they will put you in jail overnight.

Most of the time you can't even go the speed limit cause of traffic, so it's not a concern. But, if you're from outta town, don't go >=20mph over speed limit or >=80mph EVER. The VSP lie, wait, and prey on out-of-state people that don't know this law.

You've been warned!

If you watch some of the Trutv episodes where they chase motorcyclists it either ends in a ride in the ambulance or them handcuffing the perps, with the cop mentioning he would have only gotten a small fine instead of being charged with evasion. Either way, don't be a squid it isn't worth it.

First of all I think we have a LEO or two on this site so be nice, second of all I wish the cops gave out more tickets in my area, I have a wreck nearly every day due to bad drivers and speeders (those damn yuppies and their BMW's.)

Its probably good that I have a clean record as far as tickets and such, though the two stolen bikes don't help . :bangdesk:

Due to the high rate of traffic fatalities when bikes are involved, as per my local state trooper "If you're on a bike and think you're being singled out, YOU ARE!"

unless you live in a no chase state, then you have nothing to worry about.

Can't outrun a motorola, Bevis! Those radio waves travel at the speed of light, and in straight lines! Very easy for dispatch to vector in other ground units to intercept. NEVER ends well for the runner, no matter the vehicle.

In most areas, all they need to do is get a partial on your license plate, and track you with the traffica cams (the same ones they use to monitor traffic flow), and it's perfectly legal for them to hunt you down and give you a ticket. Happens all the time. In the last 3 years, two different Sailors that work for me have been arrested with just such a technique when they ran from the police on their bikes. One was even followed by the police helecopter, and they had everything on him in court from the chopper and the traffic cams! I've seen it first hand, and had to submit the message upline when they took him away!

this thread went in a way different direction than CRX wanted it to and for that I am sorry. we don't have traffic cams in Nebraska, and i've never successfully ran from the cops on a bike....
