Well it occurred to me today that I've never been on highway 1 north of Petaluma. I'm moving to the city in a week so I probably won't have the chance to get out to this area for a while. Also, two new tires, fresh from 15k service and haven't had time to get out for some fun in a while...
Rode west from Petaluma then north past Jenner. Lots of people out for a saturday at the beaches and plenty of riders too. Clear, sunny day..nice and cool by the coast.
100% unfamiliar roads, but I had heard this portion of highway 1 was nice and it didn't disappoint! Beautiful views all along the coast and some nice twisties. Went as far north as Stewarts Point before heading east over to Healdsburg.
This is where I found an amazing road - Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road. The western portion of this 50-mile road is un-marked and the pavement is not the greatest, although far from the worst. The middle portion is alot better although it has some one-lane sections, but the eastern half of this road is just phenomenal. As you can see from the map the entire 50 miles is pure twisties, but I must say the eastern half is in pristine condition...large sweeping turns which love 4th gear. The road here is super wide and curves are predictable. I was just loving it here toward the end of my ride, really just lost inside the bike.
115 miles plus return trip on 101. What a great afternoon!! Below are a couple of pics by the coast near Stewarts Point, and one of me loving my bike on Skaggs Springs Road just east of Stewarts Point. Regarding that last one: yes, I'm aware of the fact that I am a huge dork, but I would argue it's easy to appear foolish when in love... so there's one of me kissing her. She'll never see a second owner.
