Another quarter brings another sales record for BMW (http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/bmw.html), with the German manufacturer announcing worldwide sales of 33,788 motorcycles and scooters in the first three months of 2016. The total sets a new first quarter record for BMW, surpassing the start of last year’s total of 31,370 units by 7.7%.
“BMW Motorrad has started into the new 2016 motorcycle season with the best first quarterly sales of all time,” says Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad’s head of sales and marketing. “With a solid growth of 7.7%, BMW Motorrad remains firmly on course for success following the record year in 2015. The current model range is very popular with our customers. This is also reflected by the high number of incoming orders. We are expecting are very positive business performance this year, too.”
The R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure continue to dominate sales, combining for 11,391 units sold in the first quarter. To put that in perspective, BMW’s second-best seller is the S1000RR which only garnered sales of 2,385 units while the S1000XR followed closely with 2,206 motorcycles sold.
