Because of the fires raging in the Angeles National Forest (RIP to the firefighters), ACH will be off limits for awhile. I'm planning a trip to Los Padres National Forest to try out Route 33.

Starting point will be at Jay's Shell at ACH.

We'll take I-210 to I-5 until where the 99 begins and head west on route 166 next to Fort Tejon State park. From there take route 33 south through Los Padres National Forest past Ojai and take the 101/PCH in Oxnard and head to Neptune's on PCH in Malibu for food.

On my way back we'll enjoy the scenery on PCH all the way through until I-10 and head back to San Gabriel and enjoy some snowbubble drinks at Tapioca Express in San Gabriel.

Below is a map of the entire route. The route from Jay's Shell to Neptune's in Malibu is about 220 miles. After that if you decide to head onto Tapioca Express with me, the total should be about 277 miles. After Neptune's Tapioca Express is optional.

If you want to ride along, please make sure to let your loved ones know your route and bring a backpack/tankbag with water and snacks, give your bike a once-over to make sure all the bolts are nice and tight, chain freshly clean & lubed, and tires are properly inflated before you leave your home.

Start time will be 8:05 am at Jay's Gas station.

Hey Ken, if the fires are out by sunday will we go to ACH instead ?

Andrew, chances are they'll have to do cleanup on the roads before they reopen the roads so even if the fires are out it'll be better to just go another time. Besides, it's rumored that Newcomb's Ranch is no longer there. Various people on other online forums are trying to verify that right now. It's strange how the local news didn't even mention Newcomb's status, especially being a "landmark" on ACH.

See you Art.

wow seriously ? that sucks (about newcombs) yeah I don't think it will be open by then ayway at least that what the news people are saying.

Ken

It hasn't been confirmed but they're not picking up phone calls so it may very well be the case. If Newcomb's is gone it'll for sure rebuild. It'll just suck for those who never had a chance to ride up there and experience the atmosphere at that restaurant especially on a weekend. Everyone's so chill.

Yeh, thats what I heard from my friend that got the same info from two different souces that Newcombs is taken by the fire. ACH will be off limits for a while for sure. All that ash on the road plus the possibility of slides will be too much risk and tracktion nightmares for motorcycles. I heard GMR got burn too but not sure if its closed or not.

Hey Frank,

Hope all is well. Check this out regarding Newcomb's. I wonder how reliable this source is...

Thanks to Ken I got to visit Newcomb's before the Station fire . If this place is still up and running, just imagine the overwhelming amount of phone calls they would receive. They probably unplugged the damn phones. I do hope that place doesn't have to be rebuilt (don't want to wait that long to visit again).

I know the owner's son and daughter. As of right now, Newcomb's Ranch is still up and safe. My source 100% reliable.

Thats good, I've been once and was looking forward to going at least once more, but such is life. In Hawai'i for the weekend, to see my family for the first time in 3 1/2 months. That sunday I already have plans so I will have to take a rain check. Hopefully next time, looks like a fun route.

Hawaii huh? I just got back from Maui. The roads are awsome. I want to ship my bike off there so I can ride the roads there.

Thanks Kelly, It was a good weekend. Went snorkeling with my daughter at sharks cove and three tables. Saw the funniest thing at three tables, started raining, hard. My daughter and I were getting ready to leave anyway and a bunch of people, in the water , snorkeling, run out of the water, grab their gear and run to their cars, crying "its raining, its raining.

Tourists, they bring such a smile to my face.

Art,

You can have anything you want on the dollar menu. Limit 2 items :D

My foot felt so much better in the afternoon so I went ahead and did the ride. Other than a stop for gas near the grapevine, I went straight to 33, and because of the long trek to get there I was fatigued prior to entering the forest.

I came across a couple of places prior to Los Padres to eat and rest so the next time I go for sure I"m going to stop at those places to check it out.

Planning to do this next Tuesday.
