I just got this bike monday.

It is a 2007 and has 233 miles on it.

Only mod so far: someone pushed the birth defect button and put a hole in the gas tank.

I found this on the first fill up

No wonder it was so cheap.

Congatulations on the new bike. You may be able to get the tank replaced for free if your bike was part of the recall.

I think this is the problem.

There is a local dealer who thinks he can help.

I guess if kawasaki fixed this problem twenty years ago, they would'nt make so much money selling new gas tanks:mad:

Kawasaki is recalling 29,559 Ninja model year 2004 EX 250 F18, EX 250 F18 L, model year 2005 EX250 F19, EX 250 F19 L, model year 2006 EX 250 F6F, EX 250 F6 FL, model year 2007 EX 250 F7 F, and EX 250 F7FL motorcycles.

Kawasaki had been receiving warranty claims for the leaking fuel tanks for almost 3 years. Federal safety officials apparently heard of it and, under federal law, “requested” Kawasaki to tell them what was going on. It took Kawasaki about 5 weeks to comply and then, just a few weeks later, the recall was announced. It didn’t take long for federal safety officials, who are responsible for requiring vehicles with safety defects to be recalled by the manufacturer, to call the defect what it was: dangerous.

The fuel tank may have been punctured or weakened during the manufacturing operation by a fairing mounting screw that was too long for the purpose. Also, the threads of the nut could have been damaged when workers were aligning the fairing with the tank during initial installation, or paint could have blocked the threads. In that case, in an effort to clean the threads, a tap was run into the nut. Kawasaki reports that because the depth of travel of the tap was not properly controlled, the tip of the tap may have punctured the outer surface of the tank.

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. A fire on a motorcycle is dangerous at any speed — or even just sitting still!

Not every Ninja motorcycle was recalled. Here’s the reported starting and stopping vehicle identification numbers of the recalled motorcycles:

It is a recall bike. Kawasaki has record that it already was repaired, but I guess it did'nt take.

It's going in saturday morning for a new tank. I have to live without my new baby for a whole week.:(

Checked on the bike tuesday, they got the tank in.:) But it had a dent and we sent it back:(

Got a call from the shop yesterday. " We cant get yer bike to start"

It cranks, tries to fire, then no start.
Today They look for a while and find the ECU is behind the coolant tank, upside down and full of water.:(

End of day they call to say it's happy & ready to go home.:)

It then died on the test drive and never came home.

I dont think its ever going be mine:(:(:(

P.S. The lettering on the tank is tan instead of white. Thanks for the free tank kawasaki.

What, did they leave your bike out in the rain with the fairings and tank removed while waiting? Boo.

I had the same problem with my 01, but I just bought a new tank off of ebay. Luckily, the 07 red is very close to the 01 red and it looks exactly the same in bright light!

Sucks about the other problems though...ECU filled with water? Never heard of that one before...
