The Ducati (http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/ducati.html) Multistrada 1200 Enduro is being recalled because of a problem that can cause the rear shock to detach from the swingarm. The recall affects model years 2016 and 2017, for a total of 568 vehicles.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the lower shock-end eyelet on some units may not be strong enough for “intense off-road use” and may may crack. Should the eyelet break, the shock could detach from the swingarm, increasing the risk of a crash.

The problem was first identified in October 2016 after an eyelet broke during an internal Ducati off-road test. Ducati opened an investigation and found two other Multistrada Enduros with a cracked eyelet. On April 20, Ducati initiated a worldwide recall. As of April 25, no complaints or warranty reports related to this problem were reported by consumers.

Ducati dealers will replace the rear shock assembly on affected units with a new part more robust lower shock-end eyelet design (shown on the right with the green arrow in the image above).
