Just bought a 2001 250r for $100 and she needs a gas tank. Bad. Preferably red but I'll take any color. Anyway, could someone point me in the right direction? eBay and Amazon weren't real helpful. Unless I'm just not looking right. Thanks!

Now that I've been looking a little the question is now does a ex500 gas tank on a 250?

Try the for sale section here, and then eBay

Any tank from 1988-2007 will work, just stay away from California only tanks

Yeah found a ton of tanks on eBay for 08-12. Off by one damn year. Anything older than 2008 is scarce on eBay I've got calls in to salvage yards. Wonder if you can make a 08-12 fit on an 01?

I don't know how your searching, but I'm finding a few for the PreGen

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/162384850899

As I own both the 250 & 500 I can say the tanks are totally different, same goes for NewGen Ninjette 08&up won't fit.

If you don't mind me asking why do you need another tank?. Rust?. Dented?. Holes? Etc....

I found one! Red one to match my bike! And it's in near mint condition and super clean on the inside. What a relief I was having a tough time and best thing is she was $70.

So my bike is ready for a grand total of $370 spent.
I needed a new tank because the one on there got dented up and if you filled the tank up 3/4 full it would leak a little. Someone bashed their helmet on the tank in a fit of rage. Stupid. Anyway I bought the bike for $100 it's my avatar. A really solid 2001 just needed a carb rebuild and ignition. Now she's running like a top and can't wait to get the new tank on. I'm one happy camper man. Thanks for your links that second one is a piece of crap but people must be buying them. I got super lucky! I'm in one of the best moods of my life right now lol. Now just looking for a front upper headlight fairing. Like the naked look to be honest but a couple plastic pieces I do want.

Thanks man. Carb has been rebuilt and new ignition is in. She's running like a top. Leaving her at the shop til the tank comes in Thurs or Friday.

I suggest installing an inline fuel filter while your in the neighborhood, also check the fuel shut off valve / petcock, and either order a new one, or rebuild the one.

Also service the spark plug caps as well.

New plugs just put in the other day thanks. I'll definitely do the other things you've recommend tomorrow I got all day I'm off work. Was gonna ride but maitnence is actually fun lol.
Seen a K&N inline filter for $6. Shut off valve/petcock look good. The bike has been thurougly inspected and small inexpensive things that make a difference have been and are still being replaced. It's been a blast.
