These bike are $4000 NEW for the dealer. Used bikes still have to pay tax.
So therefore you are asking about $1000 over what the bike is worth.
Sorry.
Buying then regretting usually costs more than nothing...

what do you mean used bikes still have to pay tax? the bike is paid off. private owner. there is no tax.

only registration.

i said i would negotiate.

and yes i know regretting costs more but what can i say..
plus its not like the bike is junk now.
its still brand new.

new bikes go around 5000 out the door around here.
someone buying for straight up 4800 or LESS from ME
would be getting a good deal.

Sorry, but there is ALWAYS a sales tax when you buy/sell a vehicle. When you go to get it registered they WILL ask for the bill of sales and charge 6% sales tax. So in the end the buyer would be paying $5088 for this bike PLUS whatever the state charges for registration and title. (each state has different standards for fees)

This is something you can't get around. The only way to... *ahem*... 'cheat' the system is to write up a bill of sales for a really low amount in order to pay less tax on it. If you go to register a new vehicle without a bill of sales most states will charge taxes on the blue book value of the vehicle. I know all this from experience in more then one state.

hm.. no wonder..

well, either way.. 4800 is the asking price..

doesnt mean i cant lower. I WILL LOWER. just when a serious buyer is interested.
plus who said the "bill of sales" must be accurate? o.O

Isn't that pretty much what I said? At least that's what I was driving at with saying to write it really really low. (paid $1800 for my bike, the guy wrote it up as $500 for me)

Where the heck are people finding these bikes so cheap? I paid $5570.25 CAD for mine, and converted into USD it's still over $5000. Are prices really that much lower in the US?

it depends where you live.
none of the bikes here in california go for less than 5000 out the door.
but ive heard of them being quite a bit cheaper in places where you aren't able to ride all year.

Jessica- the MSRP up there is higher than ours is in the states... Tyronne- good luck with the sale, but I don't think you'll get anywhere near that much for it

^ for a new 250R your pirce is about right ther are $4729 OTD here in Chico. Down there they are a little more so at $4500 you'll find a taker hopefully.

Your a private owner, and you are still asking more than the msrp.....Once a vehicle leave the dealer the value DROPS..

tyronne1126
October 3rd, 2009, 11:55 PM
think about it.. its 3999 at the dealer but with freight charges and tax and everything else.. here in CA you leave with 5000+ out the door.

buying mine for $4000 + registration and tax(cheaper tax) at the DMV you will pay much less than the dealer.
no freight chargers or anything (obviously)

and considering the bike only has 22miles and is less than a week old from the dealer and nothing wrong with it at all..

i dont think im asking too much.

You're getting close.... I think $3800 is your sweet spot.

sombo
October 4th, 2009, 07:32 AM
Have you put this up on craigslist? If not you really need to, that's your best bet for finding a buyer.

tyronne1126
October 4th, 2009, 11:02 AM
i did but my price there is 4500. (which i might lower) because people on craigslist are all shady...

uhm.. $3800 is my sweet spot? your kidding right?
i dont think anyone can argue what i said earlier.
yes i bought it and i am the one that is going to lose money but god dammit.
it has 22 miles and there is NO WAY you will get it this new and this cheap anywhere
the person buying would already save over $1000 bucks.

Well, I can buy one right now for $3800 OTD. Perception is not always reality, unfortunately.

Not here in California you cant.

Alex
October 4th, 2009, 11:23 AM
Richard lives in Cali and buys many of his bikes in Cali; if he says he can I wouldn't doubt him for a second. Do you have the title in hand? Is the bike paid off?

Sorry this hobby wasn't for you, and I hope your sale goes well. If it's priced correctly it will sell quickly, if it's not it won't; there's not much more to it.

tyronne1126
October 4th, 2009, 11:28 AM
i dont know where he went but i went to every single dealer in my area and no one would go below 5000..

im not here to argue. just trying to sell the bike.

yes i know it was my mistake and misfortune but that doesn't mean i need to completely lose everything and give such a low price.

Sorry, but there is ALWAYS a sales tax when you buy/sell a vehicle. When you go to get it registered they WILL ask for the bill of sales and charge 6% sales tax.

Not here is GA. All of my cars and bike have been used. With the private sellers, the DMV only wanted the title, didn't even ask for a bill of sale.

Sorry for the sale, but good luck with it.

sombo
October 5th, 2009, 08:31 PM
Some states don't have a sales tax and would therefore not require that. However, in every state that I've been in that has a sales tax they require a bill of sales for any vehicle you purchase. If you owned those vehicles for longer then a certain period (6 months in Florida) then no, they won't ask for the bill of sales.

There is a dealer in the SoCal area who tried selling the '08 250 Ninja for $7000, but I went to another dealer offering it for $6000, and thought it was a deal.... wish I had done more research.

The $6000 includes MSRP, freight, taxes, registration, and gap.

Tyronne, good luck with the sale.

including gap does increase the normal costs. you probably overpaid by an extra $500. i'm sure it hurts to know you overpaid, but if you are happy with the bike, then consider it a wash.

I learned from this costly impulse buy, but yes, I'm very happy with the bike, so it doesn't hurt too much. :D

Pffft, and they said you can't buy happiness. :p

A bike is only worth what someone is willing to buy it for. You may think its worth 4000 because of what you paid, but if someone isn't willing to forkover that much then sorry it aint worth that. Good luck though on the sale, hope someone becomes a happy ninjette owner soon

It would make more sense if you had put the rim tape on BOTH sides of the wheels.

There are at least 5 dealerships in the Bay Area selling new 250s for $3999 plus fees, which work out to about $4800OTD...that includes tax and more importantly now...1 full year of registration AND 1 full year of warranty.

In the bay area the used 250 selling price sweet sport seems to be about $3700...since there are like 20 trying to sell them at the magical $4000-4800 range...
this isn't limited to 250 sellers, I have seen guys trying to sell R6's for like $11,000...

Yep. I came back to CA a few weeks back looking to pick up the little bike for Cute Girl, and everybody wanted close to $3K for an '07. Meanwhile, I missed one in NOLA but got one here in norther Alabama, both for just over $2K.

With the jerking around of motorcycle registration fees at Cal DMV, it's nuts what people think their used bikes will sell for these days.

One picture was before the rim strips thats why..
Sorry for that..

Price is still $4000. You either like it or you dont.

Leave it at that.

No more comments or suggestions please.

Ok I will let you slide with the rim tape but if someone from the east coast were to buy it they will have to factor in all the benjamins they will need to spend to ship it, no? Just keep ithe damn thing and ride the sht out of it already will ya?!

Keep your bike, it's true.. maybe your dealer jacked you. But I bought my bike $4300 OTD (bike, taxes, etc) in Central California... You won't get back what you spent, so use the bike and get something out of it before selling it.

tyronne1126
October 10th, 2009, 04:06 PM
That's central CA. Not South CA near LA.

Anyways. I got a buyer for $4000 but the problem is I can't sell the bike without the title.
(Apparently you can't when it's brand new / You can if it's old and sold more than once)

LOL, I know, SOCAL makes no difference on price for this bike. I can get it at the same price. Don't go off sticker prices.

note: You should post why you don't have your TITLE, as to inform any potential buyers here.

Makes sense. I've gotten them between 3 weeks and 6 weeks from the purchase of a new bike. Seems as soon as I start getting antsy about 'em, they show up in the mail the next day.

well i had gone a week before i got it and they sat me down and i had offered the same amount and they actually turned me down. i didnt care at the time cuz i was also looking at either the 650R or the fz6r also. so when i went back the next week they started talking numbers to me again and i said i didnt need that bike and was waiting for the others to be in stock and told them that the only way ill take the 250 was if they gave it to me for 4500 otd and they did.

Some states don't have a sales tax and would therefore not require that. However, in every state that I've been in that has a sales tax they require a bill of sales for any vehicle you purchase. If you owned those vehicles for longer then a certain period (6 months in Florida) then no, they won't ask for the bill of sales.

GA has a sales tax. As stated by Sombo, private sales are exempt from it. Same as private sales of pretty much anything (sell your DVD collection to coworkers, for example). I looked up all of this when I bought my bike in VA to register in GA (had to pay the taxes).

What gets me is that they even charged taxes on dealer setup and shipping/freight, which are non-taxable services in every other retail market. If they had sold me a crated motorcycle that I picked up at the dock but then I paid another party to uncrate it, set it up, and deliver it to me, how would they rightfully tax that? They couldn't. It's a service. States with taxes on services (IIRC, Hawaii is one) do not call it "sales tax." I didn't pay taxes on my 600mi service, only on the parts (oil, filter, seals, etc). I don't pay taxes when I ship a package and I wouldn't charge taxes when I fix a PC for someone (only tax the cost of the parts). It's the same concept. Other than vehicle registration, the only exception I have ever seen in a sales tax state with no service tax was when Pizza Hut tried to charge me sales tax on their delivery fee (sneaky bastards didn't itemize it and I knew the numbers weren't adding up... sure enough).
