View Full Version : So can we run a 120/70-17 BT-003RS?

My dad and I have a trackday coming up next week, and he has a stock 09 with the IRC tires, and I wanted him to upgrade to the BT-003RS' but no one online has the 110/70-17 in stock, but they do have the 140 for the rear...

Can a 120/70-17 work on the bike? Would that be more or less stupid than running the IRC RX-001's at Laguna (the IRC's are brand new, as is the bike...) Would the 120/60 be a better choice?

Ditch the IRC's for sure. Theres no need for a 120 up front. I run stock size front and a 150 rear both BT-16's. GREAT TIRE, GREAT GRIP You wont be sorry if you go with the BT-16's. Theres a few of us that run these tires on the track with great results. Look thru the threads here and make up your own mind.

unless you're going to a tight technical track, the BT003 RS may be overkill. Yes they grip very well but it won't make a difference between the 03 & 16 on a track that's not very technical

oh and +1 for 1 110/17 front.. but I guess if you can't find one then call your local store and ask if they can order it for you or.. I guess go with the 120/17

The 110 003rs front tire profiles like a 120 already (I have these on the 250). I'd expect a 120 in the 003rs tires would have a crap profile on the ninja wheel. I'd go with a 016 tire if you can't get a 110 003rs.

It's find the front tire (which we can't) before next Tuesday that is the problem...

No... all the tire suppliers don't have any in stock, they would show up 2 days late...

You can always see what they have at laguna seca for you. the 120/ 70's your dad will like better than the IRC's. Have you tried looking at pirelli's. I know you run them on your bike.

There will only be Dunlops at the track, and Dunlop doesn't have anything in a 140/150...looks like my dad is going to risk using the IRC's...good news they are brand new...and we will lower the pressure so we'll just have to see how it goes...

Well tell him to take it easy, the IRC's are a really crappy track tire.

You cant order them online and have them shipped 2day shipping??

I seen a gal on a 250 lowside right in front of me riding the IRC,s and I thought she was holding me up BIG time. Her boyfriend spent an hour playing 20 questions with me about my bike. He was really interested in my tire opinions and choices. The next time they were at the track she had the BT's and did much better.

So I've decided to get my dad some tires...I will get him the BT-003RS for the rear...the only options on the front are as follows:

Dunlop Qualifier 110/70-17
Pirelli Diablo Rosso 110/17-17
Bridgestone BT-014 110/70-17

All the rest in a 120/70-17...

My lean is toward the Pirelli for now...

Im not much of a mix -n- match kinda guy. Good luck and enjoy your trackday. I would still get me a matching set of BT-16s if it were me. To each his own.

We did one order of the Pirelli Diablo Rosso/BT-003 and I did another order from another site with matching BT-003's...here's to hoping something arrives before we leave...

what do you consider a tight technical track?
this is what I did my first track day on with the IRC's...but I want better tires for next season.

My BT-003RS' came in the day after I ordered them, not bad for Tucson to the Bay Area,CA...
the track day went great...Laguna Seca is very grippy but good tires are always needed anywhere.
He wound up installing my BT's and I just used my Super Dragon Corsa's...day went great.
Cold and windy all day, lots of crashes, but none under our tent...
