View Full Version : first DIY! tinted windscreen
ninjette October 21st, 2009, 03:16 PM ... and it turned out very nice! I used the Krylon black satin for plastic spray paint, the process took 20 mins. oh and I also just got my new lid (scorpion ex-400y [i love it!]), to match my tinted windscreen! :)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no. Only because in most states YOU CAN'T tint the front "Windshield" and a motorcycle doesn't have a "Windshield" it has a wind screen. So that's my opinion.
Best way to find out is to go ask a cop at your local station.
Tigress October 22nd, 2009, 12:04 AM Nice look!!

I guess this question never crossed my mind because they sell blacked out windscreens all the time. Also, since we don't really look through them unless we're riding on the highway and trying to block serious wind, then I don't see why it would be illegal. Plus, I don't think windscreens are even required.
joyinc April 3rd, 2010, 07:15 PM thought i'd bring this thread up again if you dont mind... i purchased some plastic spray paint today to do this after seeing a guy do it on youtube... have you had any issues with it since? flaking or anything?
I hadnt even considerd that this might be illegal... where would i find that out? i'm in ont canada

I have a 2008 and I painted the inside of mine a few weeks after getting it with just regular flat black paint, not the specialized plastic kind. About 2 years now and not a single chip or scratch. I didn't do anything aside from take the screen out, tape off the front from overspray, and do a couple of thin coats with about 5 mins in between each. It came out perfect and drastically improved the look of the bike in my opinion.
joyinc April 3rd, 2010, 08:46 PM i think i'm gonna do it :) way cheaper then getting a new windscreen!
Flow April 3rd, 2010, 10:38 PM The lighting in the OP's first picture made me realize orange would be a great colour for the 250R.

I had the EXACT thought when I first saw the picture too!!!
Greg_E April 4th, 2010, 08:39 AM Would have been way too much orange, black to break it up and match the seat was the best choice. That said if you could find the correct color in the Fusion paint, doing the mirrors body color might be cool.
FYI the screen would be 100% illegal in NY, but probably not an issue unless the inspector or officer was having a bad day. Even the see through tinted ones are illegal if you go beyond a certain point, I think 10% is the official limit for vehicles originally designed to be sold in NY. Used vehicles imported from southern states often have more tint but I don't think you can go past 20% with those. It's one of those BS things the officer can use to stop you if they want to check you out to make sure everything is proper, same goes for license plate light which is not an inspection item, but they can stop you for it if they want.
ninjablk08 April 4th, 2010, 08:54 AM sweet job

I too was thinking that
addy126 April 7th, 2010, 06:05 AM Can't imagine that a dark tinted windscreen would be subjected to being placed on the list of illegal accessories. It does not block your view of the road, used mainly for deflection of the wind and taking the hit on objects being thrown up at you, we are always lookin over our screens (in tuck position I suppose it might be an issue) and the other is that it does not block you or the passenger from the view of the police. Seems redundant if its considered illegal. Cages yes..... bikes just weird.

The windscreen on my suzuki is blue LOL. I doubt it's illegal.
Also, in case anybody's interested, I'm pretty sure you can get a tint paint...that way you don't have to totally black out the wind screen. Most people use it to rice up their tail lights. :D
Check Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire...or wherever crappy car accessories are sold.
