The crash made no sense too, on the straightaway after the final corner.
Tragic, RIP

That sucks. I want to go see the race, but I'm hoping to only see successful corner navigations. No crashes.

From what I've heard there was a new bump in the pavement after the final corner causing tankslapper issues for some riders but no one knows for sure

One of the other most recent fatalities in this race happened at very close to the same spot; right past the finish line.

There's no way to remove the risk entirely (or maybe even significantly) from this type of event, but if there are two very similar incidents within a few years, it does make you wonder if there is something that can be done at least right in that transition area that now has claimed 2.
