View Full Version : Headlights matter...

So, when I do track days on my 'combo' bikes (street+track) like Saturn, I pull the fuses to make sure my tape doesn't melt onto the lights.

After I fixed Saturn up earlier this year I realized there were some issues that are "past my pay grade" (my aftermarket dash was psychotic, I needed new tires and I don't have a mounter) so I took it to the shop and mentioned if they could finish converting back for street while they were at it. I guess they forgot and I didn't think to check...

Rode to work in the daylight... Started riding home around twilight and had an 'oh ****' moment. I pulled over to verify the problem and I saw a biker go by and glance at me distinctively. Once I realized there was nothing I could do until I got home I decided to just ride as defensively as possible, ride my brakes (at least that light was working) a bit, and once I got past the bridge to ride on the shoulder. About a 1/4 mile down the road I saw the biker from earlier and he must've realized my issue when I pulled over because he fell in behind me and escorted me home.

Teaches me to not check that stuff before heading to work!

Agree.never hurts to do the pre-ride inspection each, and every time. I get it though. Glad it didn't become a worse situation.

Glad you made it home safely!

Darn mechanics! If you don’t give them specific instructions, they always seem to forget something. I guess that’s why U.S. Army recipe for chocolate-chip cookies is 5-pages long! You can be assured it’s made properly and tastes exactly same anywhere in world! :D

Eh, it was my own fault -- should've checked but I think I just haven't had the mental click it gets dark so early thanks to the clock change yet.

I read this thread before going to sleep the other night, and it gave me weird nightmares about my motorcycle headlight not working lol

Did they not mention to you that your headlight wasn't on? Should be part of any shop's safety inspection!

They’re almost entirely a track oriented shop; so I don’t actually put any fault on them.

Sorry, not trying to disparage you, I want to know if I misunderstood. You pulled the fuse and could not just stop and put a fuse in the slot? I may have misunderstood which bike you were discussing as I dont know the Names of your bikes VS models. I am just asking if this was just a missing fuse or if there was a reason you could not replace the fuse on the street curb or if this is a different bike than I thought and you possibly removed the headlights for the track like I did to my bike.

Glad it worked out for you

When I put the bike in track mode I put all the items (fuses, mirrors, etc) in a small toolbox; so there was no way to put it in without getting home first. Bikes are all identified in my profile to the left :)
