I didn't see a "motorycycles wanted" section, so I hope this will do. My daughter is looking for a crummy looking pregen 250 that's in decent running condition. The idea is if it looks bad it might not get stolen from her apartment parking lot. She's in the Raleigh NC area. Please let me know if you have one you want to part with.

How much are you willing to offer for this “decent running bike that looks bad”?

I guess it depends on the usual things like mechanical condition, miles, tires, chain/sprockets, etc.. She's been seeing some in FB and Craigslist in the range of $1,000 to $1,500. There's a VA dealer that has one for $1,000 that would be ideal, but it needs a new starter clutch. They say they'll fix it as part of the deal, but it's backordered and they have no idea when it will get there.

Bought this one from a member here a while back -

Picked it up in IL, about 20 miles from where I used to live before moving to WI. Guy crashed it at 85 MPH apparently. Got a ticket for that speed and an ambulance ride. Forks and frame were fine.

Paid $150 for it. The oil looked like dirty gas and the gas looked like dirty water, but after a fluid change and carb work it fired right up. Oldest boy rode the **** out of it for over 3 years. Spent most of its time near redline. He still misses it.

Sold it for $850 with new Pirelli tires and running like a top.

I see them locally in fair to good condition for under $1000 occasionally, especially this time of year.

Yes, I imagine that where you are, you don't get much winter riding, so the prices would tend to drop. The decent running ones my daughter has found are quite a bit more than $1,000.

I forgot you were in NC. Not going to get the same price drop this time of year as we do.

Youngest son recently moved to New Bern and is stationed at Cherry Point MCAS.

Darn, I'd have a 2002 to sell you for $1000. But shipping out there will add another $500 or so. And it might look too flashy being yellow and all. I can rattle-can it flat black before shipping if you'd like.

Well, if you ride it here I'll pay half your bus fare home. :)

That's fair...

It will only take you four days to get there if the weather is good and 5 days to get back by bus because it will stop at every major city on the way back.

I figured 7 days on the bus.

A friend on New Mexico said they got 6" of snow, so he'll need to go south of there.

I like trains! Went from S.B. to S.F. via train for our honeymoon. Hung out for couple days, then flew to Montreal.

How far you willing to travel?

And is it OK if it has dirt bike tires on it?

Oh, I suppose NVA isn't out of the question. Of course it would be nice if it had a new set of BT45s on it, but what do you propose?

I've got shipping quote for $660 if you're interested. I'm afraid I can't take that much time off to ride it out there. Actually had seat re-skinned so it's fresh and complete with no rips. Also have new-gen swingarm upgrade with new-gen shock & 17" wheel.

I appreciate that. I passed it along to my daughter and will let you know what she says.

I hope you knew I was joking about the bus fare thing.

She appreciates the offer and didn't reject it, but wants to keep her eyes open for a more local deal for now.

Well no one is going to steal it. But my son refuses to park it anywhere near a dumpster.

I was sort of wondering about the price, mechanical condition, etc..

It's snowing, raining, and sleeting now, so no pictures. I'll have to talk with my son about how much he wants for it.
