Can you really call that a "burn out?"

Seems lke something cool to do with your old bald tires, considering that they won't be touching the surface or anything. ;)

Cool video. Even with spikes on the tires I still don't think I would have the nerve to ride on ice.

I guess turning is out of the question?

Are those tires made that way to accept those bolts or do they have to seal it up or what? How does the air stay in?

Standard ice racing setup. Bolts are self-sealing. Turning is definitely possible. Please watch 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2r3oZGWaIM , 2)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-MyyDiBRio . 3)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbUoIY-jW8s&feature=related.

And yes, IMO these people are certifiable.

OK but how about on his street bike with spike/bolt tires? (like the video that lead me to the questions) I realize you can race a motorcycle on ice, but I think it's a bit more specialized than a street bike with bolts in the tires, if anything, a specialized track too. Why didn't dude do a few turns in the video?

ummmm, dunno. Perhaps BMW rider never did any ice racing of their own, so had fear in their heart. Maybe camera operator always fell down trying to turn to keep up with the bike . Maybe THAT bike can't turn. Maybe no-one thought that the audience would want to see ice turns on a sport bike?

Yep, just as I imagined, can't turn a street bike on ice very good. Video one in your last reference post shows how much of a hard time they are having keeping the bike in a straight line let alone turning it.

Not to mention it's like 40 times more dangerous than riding it on the street. The fact that they put hundreds of holes in the tire first isn't exactly genius either. They may self seal but not for long.

I'm definitely not an advocate of riding street bikes on ice. They don't have the suspension for it.
Listen to the guys bike stutter in the OP's video after every bump he hits. That's awesome! =P
