Four inches of snow? Dude.

Here in SoCal I'm hoping for a bit of rain that they've promised us tonight.

It's supposed to be 71° here in Michigan on Friday. My buddy in L.A. was upset that it's going to be a bit cooler there.

Bob KellyIII
November 2nd, 2022, 01:24 AM
Well, it only got up to 40 some odd degrees today so all of that 4" didn't melt away as I hoped it would..... we still have at least 2" on the ground maybe more ! but I have High hopes tomorrow will melt it ALL AWAY !!!! LOL
.....
I found a 30mm carb for the TT250 and it should be here in a few days
which should be interesting to see the change that it brings to that TT250 as it
is very underpowered stock....... I think it comes with a few extra jets but I think I will have to scrounge up a 110 main jet because the smallest it comes with is a 120.... i dunno I'll just have to put it on and see what it tells me !
that should give me something to tinker with over the winter I think HAHAHAHA

anyway... all this week is supposed to be colder than today and off and on snow showers..... one of the disadvantages of being at 3800'ASL I guess !

L.A. grrl here. Yeah, it's a bit cooler than 71 today though we did get a spot of rain last night. That was nice. Haven't checked the temp but it's a bit chilly.

Sure Rick....I'll see if these work. as you can see all the snow didn't melt today. we still have a inch or less. the high temp today only got to 40 degrees !

unknown to most viewers , behind the clouds in the 2nd picture sits Mt.Shasta
it is kind of surprising how well it can be Hidden in the clouds !
I'll try and post a pic here of a shot with no clouds we are a maximum of 2 miles as the crow flies to the mountain and the view is always beautiful !
....and no i haven't seen a single UFO over the mountain yet.... saw a small landslide once this last summer but that is all.
well, fooie, I know I have a few pictures of the mountain but I couldn't find it through navigating with the unfamiliar interface... i guess I didn't hold my mouth right LOL....

ok I found one for ya... this is from April 2017 at almost the same spot in the yard... this is what I get to look at most of the time during good weather
the 2nd picture is what I get to look at in stormy weather...there is no mountain !

that's actually looking out the window just over the computer monitor

at first I thought it was out side the window in the yard but it's not...
there is no doubt Mt. Shasta is a very beautiful mountain !
but being at this Altitude has it's draw backs... in my younger days, where I'm at used to reach down to -30 below in the winter and get 5' to 6' of snow, but now we are lucky to get 3"~4" of snow at a time that melts off fairly fast.....
it's a different world now folks! All the old farm houses up here had Doors on the second story back then, so they could get out of the house after a big snow fall !
and that just boggles the mind ! so global warming is true ! But it is a natural process
it's done this many times in the past, we've just sped it up a bit is all.
to me the big worry about Global warming is not the weather at all it's the rise of sea level....that is going to displace millions of people, and do it quickly. and all the outlawing of woodstoves, making everyone drive electric cars, and pushing Green technology, is not going to change a silly thing.... it is what it is... get used to it, because it is actually coming... good or bad.

You can upload native picture and use resize tags https://www.ninjette.org/forums/images/custom_images/resize.png tags around it.

You can upload native picture and use resize tags https://www.ninjette.org/forums/images/custom_images/resize.png tags around it.

All of these methods are various options; there's no right or wrong here. But you don't necessarily need to put resize tags around pictures that are loaded as attachments. Attached pics can be shown as thumbnails (don't put the reference in the post), or are sized properly if the reference link is put in the post. If they are just thumbnails, when they are clicked on, vbulletin puts them up in a shadowbox either at full size (if it fits), or scaled to fit the full picture on the page.

The resize tag that I added is a quick and dirty html tag on the client side that forces a picture to be 1000 pixels wide. This is quite helpful if the image is already on another site, and 1000 pixels seemed to be a good compromise for typical monitors (and now even phone screens). But the built-in vbulletin resizing may be more effective than the "resize" tag for vertical orientation pictures, as 1000 pixels wide can make the picture quite tall, and not fit all on the page anyway.

Well thank you.... i think heheheeh I tried to put a resize tag on one just to see what it was like but I guess I don't know how to do it....
I wound up just attaching it to the post as usual....
Question: what is the normal resolution for a picture here ?
on the China riders forum it's 1024x768 which is from the age of dinosaurs !
but that forum bites the big one anyway LOL.... I keep trying to help the guys there but no one ever checks it, it seams...they make one post and leave and never come back HA !

it looks like this site can handle anything you throw at it but having ran a site before I realize that huge pictures are frowned on, at least they were back then......
I usually set the camara in my Phone to the resolution i want on the computer
but I think it is automatically resizing them to fit the screen anyway... so I cut it way down and they sure load faster now ! HAHAHAHAH
but no difference in the quality that I can tell. it's like there are too many hands in the pie on taking pictures anymore the camara does it, windows 11 does it too and you never know what the true resoultion is unless you look up it's properties !
hehehehe

As Alex mentioned, attachments are automatically scaled.

Not sure what is limit of embedded image-size. I've embedded 10mp photos before, they just scale across entire screen really wide!!! Then put inside [ resize][/ resize] tags and it's dynamically scaled to 1000 pixels wide. Small images can also be scaled up to 1000 side as well.

Ah... good to know. Thanks!

I usually don't upload pics here because I use them on other sites as well. So would rather upload just one copy once. I usually upload to Google Photos for friends and family to see albums. Then embed individual photos on sites.

that's interesting !
I usually just add attachment and then try to hunt it up on this monstrous hard drive !
the thing that still confuses me is that windows has 3 or 4 places where there are picture folders and I usually have to go through each one looking for the REAL picture folder that I am after... I've considered deleting all the ones I don't use believe me, but my Kid warns me that is not a good idea ! LOL
....
well today was fruitful.... I got 2 tons of wood pellets delevered from tractor supply
I asked the gal how much they were a bag and she said $6.29 a bag ( they had gone up from $5.99 last week...) I told her their website says the bags are $7.49 each so how much would she charge me for 2 tons , she calculated up the $6.29 price for 100 bags
and it was around $706.00 all totaled with the delevery fee.
so I got them last year we spent just $400.00 ...that's $300.00 more this year than last!
I wonder who is getting fat on that !!!
but we had to have it it is our main heat after all... but man that urks me !
....I think tomorrow I will swap carbs on the TT250 and see what I get !
that should be interesting !

LOL yah well, that would be great till it quits working ...because ya know murfies law ! and I am sure only very large corporations could afford one of those ! and even though they would run for decades eventually they would need refueling....and that could be a problem. Not to mention Zoning
or Irate neighbors worrying about a nuclear bomb in my back yard.... which they would ! ignorance knows no bounds !!! it doesn't matter if it can't possibly explode...... it's nuclear powered !!!!
.....
I like the idea of Geothermal heat myself....
or tapping into the earths resonance frequency and taking that power into a resistance heater and running it 24/7.....which should be do-able !
....
but for now I'll just buy wood pellets
LOL

That snow and much more is desperately needed to refill the lake reservoirs this coming spring.

Bob KellyIII
November 6th, 2022, 11:03 AM
Boy that is the Truth ! the geologists or farm experts have been saying that the Aquifer that feeds the mid west is dropping so fast that it is scary
one of the reasons lake mead is so low as well. All of the lakes in California are extremally low and it will take a good long wet winter to refill them and we are not likely to get that according to the weather guys instead they say we are more than likely heading into another 10 year long drought ! and that could break the americian bread basket completely... no water for the crops !
so just plane o'l bread may become a rare comody in the future !
i remember a few years back you could not find bread under $5.00 a loaf and it was a short loaf ! so we made our own bread.... I think that will repeat in a few years !
....
it's no doubt that the weather patterns are changing but the question is what are they changing too ???? could they possibly be changing to make the Sahara desert green again ? it's possible ! but what will that do to life here?
at one time long ago the central valley of California was all sand doons... that
would be very bad , but I have a gut feeling that that is in our future again!
.... I've heard it said that the central valley of California would have ALREADY
have turned to a parched desert, but the irrigation hasn't allowed that to happen....Yet but when the lakes dry up there will be no more Irrigation to be had ! .... its impossible to say what the future holds, but it's easy to say it won't be good ! LOL....

Very grim prognosis but we have to face the truth and start making changes.

Bob KellyIII
November 6th, 2022, 05:56 PM
I don't want to sound like doom and gloom, but from what I've been able to learn,
Getting ready for it mentally is really ALL you can do and perhaps save some money up because you can put down the strictest laws about emissions
and it will not change a thing ..you CAN'T do a thing about it, except prepare
because it is going to happen again just as it did in the past... History tells us through archaeology that the planet we live on has a changing weather pattern... it's not set up to be the same century after century...and it won't be.
it does change.... going all electric will not change that at all . Tree rings data tell a shocking story about weather, and it's been like this for thousands of years, add that to sea bead cores and you can get an idea of what is to come. and it does look like it is following the same pattern over and over....but we are talking thousands of years not a few decades ...so it is not as bad as it sounds !
.....
so what can you do to prepair for something like this golobal weather change?
well you can be like a "Prepper" and make an underground house stocked with
guns and food and all that, but it will last 100's of years it will be all of your life
it will be Normal to your Kids and normal to your grandkids its not something that will last a decade or two and then be back to normal.... the change itself will last longer than our lifetimes... so what do you do ? the only thing you can do either move to where the weather is better or make due where you are....and we are quite used to that already....
so even though we KNOW this it is essentially a non issue.... we'll just cross that bridge when we come to it ....that's all. it's not like next year it will happen... it's a slow process and nothing to be worried about...
at the very most humans live to be 100 years old and through your whole life you might be able to see the most extream changes in the weather but that would be all.... I can see the changes in snow fall...but it is nothing to be panicked about. where I live now there used to be 6' of snow every winter by almost every storm that went through so 8'to 10' of snow on the ground was not unheard of when I was a kid. now the most we get is 3~4" a snow fall
...sure we occasionally get as much as 3' but that is rare.
... to be Honest living in America in 300 to 400 years may not be the best place on the planet to live....but then again, it may be one of the best we just don't know.....
....
We Humans adapt to conditions very well, I don't even think the global weather pattern change will be a hard task. but I could be very wrong there.
....we will just keep on, keeping on ...if the frigging government doesn't get us in a Nuclear war !
......

and that is just so WRONG ! LOL:rotflmao:

just reading what you had to say about climate change bob, spot on. Also, for winterizing bikes, the best thing is to keep riding them, just starting them up and taking them in a low speed loop around the block is sufficient, just once a week. If this is too much, just pour oil down the fuel line or run some 30:1 as the last tank of fuel and make sure it gets into the carb. Then the bike will start right up come spring, with clear jets preserved by liquid gold

Bob KellyIII
November 10th, 2022, 05:16 AM
Years ago on the Ranch and having 17 running motorcycles I never bothered winterizing them... 1. there were just too many and 2. it didn't need any special treatment at all... the gasoline back then would last 3 months with ease
but then they changed the formula for the gasoline and it became necessary to "Winterize the bike" this is because the gas now days will loose it's ability to explode and burn in about 3 months total time and by the time you get it its already 1.5 to 2 months old as it is.... so it is safe to say it will only last a month now..... and that really SUCKS !!!!!
if however you add STA-BUL to the gas tank and mix it with the fuel that little bit will indeed extend the life of the fuel for an almost undetermined time!
Around 1974~1980 somewhere in that area I found out the hard way that the gasoline itself quit working and asorbed alot of water as well....
I had a DT1 Yamaha250cc that I had covered with a tarp and removed the battery.... but that was all I did to it.... I didn't even drain the float bowl.
the next spring I kicked My butt off trying to start that thing but never got a single pop.... I Checked the spark, it was good, and compression was good,
that only left fuel, so I drained the gas out and put some on a 2"x4" i had laying there and tried to light it it would not light even with a torch !
and it wasn't all water either .... but it smelled Odd, not like fresh gasoline
sense I couldn't get it to burn and I tried several times in different ways
I poured it out and the 5 gallons that I had stored for the bike...as it went bad too..... at the time gas prices were $2.29 a gallon and I thought that extremally high at the time.... little did I know! LOL
I went to the corner store and filled my 5 gallon can and came back home and added the new fuel to the gas tank it took about 20 kicks but it finally fired up....and ran like a top...
Now days I turn off the gas and drain the carb float bowl if I can...
there are 4 bikes here bit only 2 are drainable like that... the Triumph 750 and the 2021 TT250.... the Ninja has a petcock but you cannot turn it off ...at least I don't think you can.... and the RX4 is fuel injected so there is no petcock at all....
so what I do to winterize my bikes isn't much it's Add Sta-bul 360 to the fuel and then slosh it around a bit and run it around the block at least... to make sure it reaches the carburator... then put the cover on it and
if the battery is a iffy one I will remove it and put it in the shop and put it on 2 amp trickle charge for the winter !
....
I do remember tearing into the fuel systems of my bikes at the Ranch and finding a bunch of white deposits in the float bowl......on a bike that would not start... so from that point on with the 17 bikes I just planned on cleaning the carb before trying to start it.... that one in picitular had been setting a good 3 years and had no battery. ... i cleaned the carbs ( a twin 2 stroke 250 suzuki) put the battery charger on the battery terminals and used a shot of either.... and had it running in about 3 kicks !
.....
so I sware by sta-Bul 360.... it's never let me down...the only problem with winter storage is keeping the battery alive !!!
....
in the past I have drowned the engine in WD-40 in the hopes that it would keep the thing from seizing up over the winter , which it did.. but I don't think I would do that to a running motorcycle ! ...but then again ...what could it hurt Right ? /LOL :rotflmao:

Ok it's been a while sense I posted on this thread.... and Winter is STILL HERE
this has been the longest winter I have ever seen here in the 5~6 years we've been here.... at last check Shasta Lake is at 86% full which is the first time in almost a decade !and I still have patches of snow on the ground....it's not deep
but it is there....
and Mt Shasta is glistening white with only a few rocks showing.....
this has been the WET winter we have needed for 12 years but didn't get !
....however almost all the roads have suffered badly as there is pot holes everywhere because of all the moisture and then cold freezing and poping holes out of the pavement.
technically it has been 6 months sense the first snow fall this year and that has to be the longest winter I have ever endured....even Montana wasn't that bad but it was super cold !

But I am hoping April will warm up.... it should !
I have noticed that if there is alot of valcano activity the winters are usually more brutal...and longer.... and last year and this year we have had alot of valcano activity around the world !
....

I got the XR650L where I can flat foot it so all I have to do is cut down the side stand again and she's good to go !
....
I still haven't got the sparkplugs I ordered for the Ninja...so it is still waiting
....
the cover for the Triumph has ripped apart and it's butt is hanging out in the cold........
And what do you know all the stray cats we've been feeding are having kittens ! AURGH !
....
and my Racoons are back and acting like they haven't eaten in a month !
....
COME ON SUMMER DAMMIT ! :rotflmao:
