Alright, I'm a law student without a lot of money to spend and, unless I win the lottery soon, my '07 250 will be my only bike until I graduate and get a high-paying job (hopefully).
In the meantime, I'd like to increase the sound a bit (and the power, though I realize this will be negligible). As it stands, the bike is quieter than my lawnmower. Aside from a louder bike being more fun to drive, it'll help alert other drivers of my presence, etc. I don't want it to be so loud that I have to wear earplugs, though.
I thought I read somewhere that pod filters and a jet kit will increase the sound a bit while also increasing the power. How noticeable is this if I don't put on an aftermarket exhaust system; is it appreciable? A new exhaust is ludicrously expensive, at a quarter of the cost I paid for the entire bike.
Also, how much money and time should I expect to sink into this? Will I inevitably need to take it to someone with specialty sensors/tools? If I have problems installing anything, my dad would be able to rescue me from any mistakes I make, but we obviously do not own specialty equipment.
