So for those who haven't read yet, I crashed at the Julian meet on 03.05.11. Pics and video of the crash are at this thread:

So after assessing the damage, I needed a new woodcraft bar, right mirror, front turn signals, radiator shroud, and a upper cowl.

I ordered new bars from revzilla, ebayed the shroud, got the upper cowl from Lisa, and got the mirror from a local salvage yard.

Removed all the fairings to toss the broken pieces and installed the new pieces.

So I am almost done except for three things. I can't get the headlights to turn on, still have to order turn signals, and going to paint my fairings. I'll update my process with painting my fairings as I go along.

With the headlights, I went to my local auto store and bought a new bulb to figure out if it's the bulbs that are out or something electrical. When I installed the new bulb, it doesn't work so I'm assuming it's electrical? One of my turn signals still looks ok and those do not work either. Any ideas of what to try next are most welcome (ie which fuses do I replace?).

That's it for now. Watching the Knicks game and will re-install the rest of the fairings and the bars/grips afterwards. Let me know if you have any input on the headlights and what color fairings I should try (I'm thinking of reversing the color where the fairings are mostly white with black highlights). I'm also thinking of getting integrated mirror/turn signals if anyone has any input on that as well.

Kewl crash. I would have left it that way. What a conversation piece.

Haha, gotta at least make it street legal. Also, not sure how safe it is to have the headlight housing held on by two zipties, but I did ride it about 60 miles home ok that way.

Dang that sucked glad you are alright. I'm gonna be repainting my fairings next week as well from my lowside a while back. Its crazy how the exhaust and the kickstand on this bike seem to catch the pavement. Either way you lean you don't win.

have you checked the fuses for the lights?

Ahhh, I feel like an idiot now. I have that wiring diagram in my service manual so I thought the process was gonna be complicated. It took me two seconds to remove the seat and saw only a handful of fuses. Switched the spares for the headlights and the lights work! You can't really see in the pic, but the high beam is HID while the low beam is sylvania 4k (blue vs yellow). I swapped the low back to the HID and apparently neither light was blown.

Installing my new bars now.

Thanks again guys!

you might want to double check the wiring in that area of the crash with respect to the wiring harness. something caused the fuses to blow... maybe you have some chafed wires from bending metal? better to be safe than be out somewhere and lose all you lights.

turn on the lights and shake/wiggle the wires in that area and see if you can make the fuses blow again.

Couldn't make the fuses blow by shaking any of the wires so they seem ok. I also replaced the spares so I should be ok in an emergency (I replaced the screws that hold my seat with Phillips).

I took out the bike for a test ride and still have an old problem. The left mirror folds in from either vibration or wind. The hinge isn't holding it out and it's annoying to have to push the mirror out every minute. Is there a way of tightening it?

Haha, always so simple. I attempted to remove the foam but it felt glued on. Confirmation always helps. Thanks again :D

Nice job. You can really take pride in your bike when you work on it yourself

Glad you were able to walk away smiling.

I was thankful for no oncoming traffic man, feel bad. I did the same thing right down to your reactions, just didn't try leaning again as i had a cow pasture to go into. It still was a hard hit (dip in the field just off the road for runoff), you must have felt the same as I. I left the bike when it hit the swale and rolled over onto my back for the slide, was thankful there wasn't one of them "old oak tress" they talk about down south. Best wishes.

Been busy with work. I have broken pieces from the front cowl that I'm gonna test paint on Monday so I'll post up then.
