View Full Version : From the 250R to the new Ninja 1000...

So I put roughly 21,000 miles on my 2008 Ninja 250R before saving up enough for a decent down payment on the 2011 Ninja 1000. Big jump, but after surviving 20k+ miles on the crazy roads and highways of Orlando, I knew I was up for it.

She's a beaut! I got her on the 25th of February and have logged about 1,000 miles on her so far. I also upgraded the levers with Pazzo's recently.

Edit: I actually opted to keep the 250R. The dealer where I bought the 1000 was only offering me $1400 or so. I figure the bike, though well-worn, is worth more to me than $1400.

Any suggestions for other mods I can do on the 1000? There is not a lot I can think of...

personally, i think the stock cans are HIDEOUS - if there is a slip-on available yet i'd say go that route, although it'd probably be a good chunk of $$$.

Totally agree, though they look decidedy better than the 2010 Z1000 cans, what with their non-black finish and all. I like the M4 slip-ons offered... and I love the Akrapovic full system and slip-ons but can't afford either after buying the bike :p

has it tried to pull your arms out of the sockets yet? :D

Lol, not so much "arm-pulling" power as much as "neck pulling". It's got such insane low-end power that anything but minimal power almost send my neck flying back. Yeah, I'm a wuss.

Very nice bike! I looked at those for a while, but it was just more than I wanted to spend so I had to look at other new bikes, or go used. Excellent choice on your part. Have fun with that thing!

Congrats, great reviews on that bike. Saw a couple at the dealer here, sharp looking, except for the muffler, but hey you don't see it when riding. Enjoy!

Congratulations... After 21k on the 250, I think you've earned the right to treat yourself to that bike... Just ease into it, and be careful...

Ooohhh. Very nice! I really liked the look of those. If saving gas hadn't been the big driver when I started riding again...

But they're a little outside of the envelope I need for now.

Unless you want to trade, that is...

Nice pick-up! I have been eying the Ninja 1000 since Kawasaki announced it in October. It's exactly what I want out of my next bike, a sporty tourer with fairings that can have hard bags. I'll wait for the Kawi green version to come out next year (hopefully) before making a move.

Enjoy the bike and ride safe!

I swapped ride with a friend's 2010 Z1000 last summer during a spirited ride. Very impressive engine, the OEM exhaust note is very nice, even with the 'different' looks.
I had a difficult time seeing the speedo/tach, but riding at a spirited pace I had no time to look down at them anyway.
Very nice motorcycle..

Nice, very nice. How is the adjustable windshield working for you? Is it decent on the highway?

i can tell you what i think of it after my demo ride. Get it! end of story! This bike is amazing in all aspects of it! It is butter smooth from clutch out till red line with tons of power but never feeling like you are in over your head. The riding stance is just about the same as the ninjette, Not full upright but not back crunching SS, Sporty but comfortable is what i would say.

The adjustable windscreen is bombdigity, Sitting upright in cruise mode put it all the way up and wind is over you, set it lower get in a tuck and wind is over you, Mid level is good for all around riding.

I cant wait to get mine, i want the green and black one with abs though so i have to wait till at least the 2012 come out :)

That is how i feel after a 30 min ride i am sure it only gets better with more time on it.

I just posted a really long response and after all of that, backed out and lost everything. Great.

Amen to the comment about the green/black color. I like the all black variant since my 250 was all black, but it makes me a little nervous at night or in bad weather.

The 1000 is actually in the shop right now. Tons of problems with the bike unable to hold a charge. Shop thinks it might be the GPS device I have, but it seems like a much greater problem to me. We'll see.

That problem aside, bike is a blast from stoplight to stoplight lol. Makes for a very exciting ride to work, school, etc.

In Europe, it's called the Z1000SX, and it's in green and black. It's the same green that's on the Z1000, not the Kawasaki green on the ZXs and 250s. But I am with you though. When it comes in Kawi green, I am all over it!

Yea they got the good one first, makes sense they are going to sell tons and tons of this one over there, it is everything a euro bike is meant to be and the kind of bike they drool over. I made a few desktops to use of the bike as i am drooling over getting one lol.
