View Full Version : broke left handlebar. where to get mx style bars? mr.jake June 2nd, 2011, 01:22 PM i recently droped my bike and broke the left handle bar off. does anyone know where to get a dirtbike style handle bar kit for the ex250? thanks CZroe June 2nd, 2011, 02:21 PM Don't know where he got them, but it looks loike Reza SS in Indonesia uses them to gain more room/clearance for certain stunts and it holds a second hand brake on the left side. PPX8kuRdPWM mr.jake June 2nd, 2011, 05:27 PM thanks man, my ninja is a 96 though. ive looked all over and cant find a kit any where... tanman2003 August 7th, 2011, 08:33 AM I've been interested in doing this myself, it appears you need to drill two holes in your triple tree clamp so you can mount some of these. http://www.1tail.com/productImages_thumbBIG/158198 i have also found this, but its not in production yet apparently http://www.satoracing.com/ninja250_handleriserkit.htm http://www.satoracing.com/Ninja250handleriserkit3.jpg the second option would be more ideal, but it is not available. one thing to think about when drilling holes to mount the first option, is that there is bracing under the triple tree clamp that was cast/forged when the part was created, so its not a flat surface under there. I'm currently in the process of deciding what i want to do with that situation. OP said he has a pregen, but thanks for showing us! nickadolph August 9th, 2011, 03:59 PM Go on ebay and pickup some virago xv1100 risers. I used them to put drag bars on my bike. Also if you go with dirty bars there is a good chance you'll need longer cables. The bars themselves can be picked up at most sportbike dealerships. tanman2003 August 12th, 2011, 11:44 AM Go on ebay and pickup some virago xv1100 risers. I used them to put drag bars on my bike. They're good because you can insert an internal-drive hex head bolt from the top, which is good because space for a bolt is tight underneath. You can then tighten the risers with a hex driver from the top, and a wrench held on the bolt below. Here's ours:https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2834/10521621193_00d2d176e3_c.jpg I like the idea of bolting a plate to the existing handlebar attachment area (don't know why I didn't do that). It would add a little weight, but would allow easier use of a variety of handlebar mounts, and lower ones, too - just drill four holes in the right place, and any $20 riser set will work. jessekreib April 15th, 2015, 01:11 PM I used the aftermarket risers, available on Amazon. Are there any of these in existence that do (or could) use same size bolt as the stock handlebar mounts?? Part #92002-1178 says "Bolt,Socket,8x20" so that's 8mm diameter, right?? Most of these look to use 10mm+ bolts... Would it really hurt that much to use 8mm bolts? http://www.1tail.com/productImages_thumbBIG/158198 It'd be cool to be able to do this without drilling, as I haven't the tools for drilling.... Yes, 8mm bolts. I doubt any off the shelf clamps can be used with the stock bolt holes due the angle they are at. You could have custom risers made, but that won't be cheap at all. Drilling to fit generic risers is pretty easy. Ask around and borrow a drill?? Pigeonherd March 1st, 2016, 06:03 PM FOUND. Or do stock levers fits on 1 1/8" handlebars? DannoXYZ January 25th, 2022, 01:08 PM No, you'll need new levers and controls for 1-1/8". Yeah, sticking with factory 7/8" is easiest. Depending upon where controls end up, you may need longer carb cables. |
