After having the cafe racer bug for far too long, I finally found my starting point! It's a 1973 CB500, with a 550 motor in it. Bike runs, and it came with practically a whole extra bike plus some. Bought it for my dad to ride and for the two of us to work on after he told me he would like to ride with me. He is as excited for the whole build as I am.

Do I see drum brakes?

Yes you do, for some reason the guy swapped a drum to the front.. Luckily the disk brake set up is included. I will probably be swapping front ends in the future, or at least doing a dual disk conversion, so I wasn't too concerned.

"CB500, with a 550 motor", too much bike for me. Why would you need that much power?

Absolutely not! I had considered it, but I love the ninjette way too much! This is just an addition to the stable :)

That bike will make one super fine Cafe Racer. Definitely has the right lines. Sounds like a fun and rewarding project. Congrats on a great find.

It gets really old seeing a post about too much power every time someone mentions getting a new bike.

The point of a cafe racer is a stripped down bike to go fast. Using a 550 will make a great one, not to heavy to begin with and enough horses to make the effort worthwhile. Good luck with your new toy. Have fun!

Been going through it on the weekends, and making some good progress. Snapped this mock up picture before my buddy took the tank for paint.

Got tons of parts coming this week. I can't wait until I can ride it.

Looks really cool. I saw a Triumph Thruxton the other day. I really dig those bikes.

It's not pink, it's burgundy! :o
But, the tank will be white... frame will be a nice metallic red.

I love the Thruxton. I talked to a guy with one, said it was an awesome bike.

But why, the rust makes it look so homely.
