View Full Version : Got another bike!
dk58 June 18th, 2011, 03:29 PM After having the cafe racer bug for far too long, I finally found my starting point! It's a 1973 CB500, with a 550 motor in it. Bike runs, and it came with practically a whole extra bike plus some. Bought it for my dad to ride and for the two of us to work on after he told me he would like to ride with me. He is as excited for the whole build as I am.

Should be looking different in no time.
CC Cowboy June 18th, 2011, 03:42 PM Do I see drum brakes?
dk58 June 18th, 2011, 03:48 PM Yes you do, for some reason the guy swapped a drum to the front.. Luckily the disk brake set up is included. I will probably be swapping front ends in the future, or at least doing a dual disk conversion, so I wasn't too concerned.
Snake June 19th, 2011, 05:10 AM Great looking classic bike.
bob706 June 19th, 2011, 05:19 AM Congrats:thumbup:
CC Cowboy June 19th, 2011, 06:41 AM "CB500, with a 550 motor", too much bike for me. Why would you need that much power?
dk58 June 19th, 2011, 08:31 AM To do crazy wheelies ;)
Yasko June 19th, 2011, 10:02 PM Dan did you kick the Ninjette to the curb for this new project??? (ex-ninjette lair):confused20:
dk58 June 20th, 2011, 06:09 AM Absolutely not! I had considered it, but I love the ninjette way too much! This is just an addition to the stable :)

Sailariel June 20th, 2011, 01:34 PM That bike will make one super fine Cafe Racer. Definitely has the right lines. Sounds like a fun and rewarding project. Congrats on a great find.

It gets really old seeing a post about too much power every time someone mentions getting a new bike.
The point of a cafe racer is a stripped down bike to go fast. Using a 550 will make a great one, not to heavy to begin with and enough horses to make the effort worthwhile. Good luck with your new toy. Have fun!
Alex June 21st, 2011, 02:28 PM And CC ropes another one in. :)

dk58 August 2nd, 2011, 01:19 PM Been going through it on the weekends, and making some good progress. Snapped this mock up picture before my buddy took the tank for paint.

2011Ninja250R August 2nd, 2011, 01:26 PM Looks really cool. I saw a Triumph Thruxton the other day. I really dig those bikes.
alex.s August 2nd, 2011, 02:11 PM hawt. what color is the tank going to be? white would look good with the pink frame ;)
dk58 August 2nd, 2011, 02:42 PM It's not pink, it's burgundy! :o
But, the tank will be white... frame will be a nice metallic red.
I love the Thruxton. I talked to a guy with one, said it was an awesome bike.
Azhyen August 2nd, 2011, 02:56 PM sweet cafe bike!
