The Member Map can capture this information pretty well; and you can search by State or by distance from a point using the search boxes in the bottom left.

South NJ:

I'm mostly a weekend warrior - Sunday mornings are best for me - since there is much less traffic - which means more riding/less worrying.

Now, where to go... This is a loop I've done a few time. It is mostly 2 lane country roads - including a covered bridge, some nice views of the Deleware River and a little highway action on RT 202 but, there is hardly any traffic down that way. http://g.co/maps/g8gqb

I'm open to other suggestions though - I realize this is just close to ME.

Just got my license two weeks ago, due to horrible weather haven't ridden as much as I hoped  Hopefully this weekend will be nice..a
group ride would be great once I get more miles under my belt..

BTW I saw about 25 motorcycles this weekend heading to the Holland tunnel towards ny while I was in my car..I was so jealous lol

Lots of JC njettes! I work out of Exchange place, but I don't usually ride in.

Weather this upcoming weekend looks good. I was planning to go for a ride Friday and Sunday. No particular destination or area. I was thinking about checking out highpoint state park.

I'm in Cape May now but the bike is still in Baltimore.
I'm looking for a reason to ride it over here. Let me know if there are any locals or decent roads to ride.

I'm in for a ride this Sunday. As far as destinations, I have been to a road called the "Hawks Nest" that is pretty scenic and frequented by motorcyclists and car enthusiasts. It's near Port Jarvis, NY -- a huge haul from JC -- but maybe something to keep in mind for a ride that's not on a Sunday.

Here's a few links to some info on it...

I'm up for Sunday too - Port Jervis / High Point St Prk are close together and sounds fun, but it'll be a haul from JC. Maybe meet up near rt80/rt15 around 9:30 am then ride up and back together? My 2 cents open to other ideas

What do you guys think?

114 Miles - 2Hr 44min

Start: New York Bagel Cafe
End: Famous Ray's Pizza

It's basically a big loop. It's pretty long, probably take a stop up north.

I have not been to bear mountain...:D

Yeah, I totally agree - just looking forward to a great group ride!

The loop posted by WhiteRice looks good to me too but, it's a little out of my way to meet up in JC. If you're going up RT23 - maybe I can meet up with you guys at RT23/RT80 intersection - since its right on the way. I found a Lukoil gas station (not my favorite place) at 100 State Rt 23, Riverdale, NJ 07457 meet there perhaps 9:30 or so.

I would really like to try the ride to Hawk's Nest too though... maybe split into smaller groups at Port Jervis? No need to decide now, sounds like a game time decision.

I would have to skip this group ride since I'm not comfortable riding that much yet (had license for ~ a month) and from what you guys are planning, it's going to be a longer ride. After I get some more practice, I would surely join you guys on the next group ride. Hope you all have fun, take pictures and be safe! Enjoy!:)

I gotta map out my actual route, but I left at 9am and I got back at 5pm. I stopped a few times, but I must've driven over 300 miles today. I'll try and map it out.

Edit: Mapped!

I went up Rt 23, into Port Jervis, up 97 to hawk's nest, kept going north, got lost, almost ran out of gas, went to Hancock, rode 17m to 17a to 17 south, then road rt 4 back.

It was chilly, wear layers under your gear. This includes socks!

Rt 23 If under construction in some places. Nothing hazardous though. Some sections are closed into one way road that you have to wait at. There was a nice small section of small sweepers. Some nice scenic farmland.

It will take you through highpoint state park which has good sweepers.

Port Jervis has plenty of places to stop and eat. I stopped at Arlene and Tom's for a late breakfast. It was tasty and they were nice.

http://zachwang.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/CIMG1113-e1316207618977.jpg

I went to 97 from there which will take you to hawk's nest. This is just a scenic overlook, I didn't realize it at the time or I would've stopped to get a photo. 97 at Hawk's nest is also under construction and closed to one lane for 1/4 mile. Unfortunately this also happens to be the twistiest 1/4mile!

That's ok, because there are nice sweepers along the Delaware river after that and it's really beautiful.

I went up 97 for awhile, like a really long while and got lost. I kept waiting for a gas station but there are none. Eventually I took a left and went on an adventure. I found some nice twisties but the roads where cambered and kinda gravely so I was conservative taking them.

http://zachwang.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/CIMG1115-e1316207676720.jpg

I'll fill in the rest later

Sounds like an awesome ride - and great pics too !! Are you sure you're going to be up for another on Sunday?!? jk I'll bet you're even more anxious since its going to be a little warmer.

I went for about a 2 hour driver myself today (sorry I don't have great pics) - down RT 78 towards Phillipsburgh and back. Very windy and lot of trucks but, the little Ninja inspires confidence. (cruised at 80-90 mph indicated!)

Does anyone know of an easy way to share cell numbers? If not I'll just PM everyone on the list. Maybe we can update the list tomorrow for those who are definitely IN.

Bear mountain is pretty awesome. If its your first time, just take it easy and watch out for bicyclists... they like to hog the road around blind corners and what not. I'd love to join, but I'm stuck at school without my bike this weekend :(

Definitely down for the covered bridge run. You inspired me to pick up one of the contour cameras, so maybe we'll have some more footage to work with next time.

When you say ARC, are you referring to the MSF ERC: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-training/msf/experienced-rider-course/ or the TC ARC: http://www.tonystrackdays.com/category/7744&cfid=15688451&cftoken=70553093/sunday-nj-schedule.htm

Thanks sikuss, you'll take the second leg of the journey after our break at bridge #3. The tough part about this trip is that it's not all point to point; sometimes you have to go a round about way to get to a bridge.

I've got a 16gb from my old android phone -- I think I'll need to be more selective about when to run the camera to get a bigger card; I've got a lot of boring footage.

You should come out the next time we have a ride; just do us a favor and only use 1/4 throttle or we'll never see you again after 5 seconds in.

So what do you guys want to do next. As of now the weather this weekend is looking good.

I'm busy Saturday afternoon otherwise I'm free.

Probably hold off on my midnight NYC ride idea until it starts to warm up again.

I think there's a haunted forest type of thing up in tuxedo right by 17A.

Looking for something specific? There's a small shop down my way. Great friendly knowledgeable people (with lots of track experience), but like I said they're small so don't keep a huge inventory.

I know Cyclegear is in Edison (haven't been there yet) so i can't comment on them.

In case you are actually looking...

There's a Honda/Kawi/Triumph/BMW/Ducatti dealership in Metuchen -- good for eye candy, but I wouldn't buy anything there (Amanda got her bike there and the experience sucked--at least in the Kawi part of the dealership). http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=911+middlesex+ave+metuchen&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=wl

there's another store called Washington Cycle Works... very small and limited... so I was kinda curious which other one you've been to.

Washington Cycle Works is the one near me, about 10 minutes. Like you said, small and limited, but Ron (the owner)is the man. Plus he'll order pretty much anything for you if its not in stock. I like the peace of mind of trying things on before I buy and supporting local businesses. They just started carrying RS Taichi as well (hard brand to find in stores), which reminds me I have to go pick up my gloves from him this weekend.

Other than that just been to dealers who have even more limited items than WCW.

Let see if there's any interest in these events,

NJ Tech Day?

NJ Track Day?

If anyone has other venues or knows a club we can get a discount with speak up!

Boosted139

Definitely interested in both, could probably host a tech day at my place (since I have a huge garage and every tool known to man in it) if there's enough interest. Just would need a week or 2 notice so that I can make sure the garage isn't full of cars that need to be worked on.

As far as track goes, I plan to hit the track next season for sure. I am eyeing up Team Promotion (http://www.teampromotion.com/). They seem to have a lot more tack days at NJMP than tony's. Prices are similar, actually cheaper if you plan to only do a few.

Bike needs some work for track prep, but I've got all winter :)

Are you suppose to equalize your carbs after that?

Are you suppose to equalize your carbs after that?

Is it required? No. The only reason to justify doing these two things together is really that you're already pulling things apart, why not, BUT it is more involved. Shimming the needles won't affect the butterfly valves (which is what you're synchronizing). By shimming the needles, all you're doing is raising them which means you're adding more fuel to your mixture.

Gotcha :)

Btw I've been meaning to ask. How satisfied are you with your aftermarket rear sets?

I'm happy with them overall. Lets start with my cons (these are really nit picky if you ask me).

First would be that with my exhaust I can't set the rear brake lever exactly where I want it, its a bit low. But again that's because the area p high mount race exhaust bends up higher than a stock or "normal mount" exhaust. It's just one of those things where I really have to push down farther with my toe to hit the rear brake, its just not right there at my toe like stock. Second, isn't really a complaint, but just know you'll lose the functionality of the rear brake light with MOST rear sets. The spring system with is use with stock rear sets won't attach. Although you can just get a pressure switch to fix all this (I haven't got around to ordering one yet).

Now the good!

I like the position, I personally think it's more comfortable. Lowered my knees down the tank a bit, so my knees no longer rest on that awkwardly placed crease on the tank. Although I'm short so I don't know if it'd get someone taller's knees down that far. You're not going to be like holy crap I need to be an acrobat to use these things, but you'll notice it first few times. Does force you to use your knees to grip the tank a little, but with stock handle bars you're not super aggressive or anything like that. No regrets getting them.

Next time we ride hop on my bike to feel the positioning. Over the winter probably going to get clip ons, then I'll be nice and aggressive :D

I'm sure I've missed something here, so if you have a more specific question, just ask and I'll do my best

Rollin..

Don't know. I was one of those people who was like they can't be that different, I'll just use a phillips. It was a pain, but I managed without stripping them. That was the first time to shim my needles. The second time (when I rejetted) I totally stripped them, but luckily my jet kit came with replacement hex bolts. So no more of those JIS things (on the carb at least).

Local hardware store. I imagine you could get them most anywhere (Lowes, Home Depot, etc), but you'll probably have to buy a bag of like 50 haha

I just read a lot and I've done a lot of things to my bike haha. The hardest part is taking the screws out off the carb caps. Especially if you don't have a JIS screwdriver. What exhaust did you end up getting??

Just the cheap ones from China - danmoto carbon fiber :D...I read decent reviews so I wanted to try them...

It was fun but, I got a little bit lost - I wanted to try using my GPS to follow the Google Map route that I downloaded but, that didn't work out exactly like I expected.

I wound up on RT517 in Vernon which was definitely the highlight of the trip... hilly, twisty with a good road surface. The roads near the Wanaque Reservoir were also fun but, the road surface was pretty bumpy and patched so I wasn't able to really build any confidence when going into a turn.

I think a fun trip would be to follow RT517 from start to finish, then get over to RT519 somehow for the ride home.

Bringing this thread back from the dead to offer my A* SP-1 gloves for sale. I used them for one season (I bought Held Phantoms) and had one low speed crash in them (I landed on my shoulder and there's no damage to the gloves).

If any of your guys don't have gauntlet gloves, I'd suggest picking these up.

If someone from this thread buys them $30 picked up or $30 + shipping if I need to ship.

Also, Justin, I know you said awhile back you wanted my smoked Puig double bubble. If you still want it, shoot me a PM with your address and I'll ship it to you for the cost of you paying for my share of the lunch the next group ride we do.

nycsteve - no rides planned at the moment but check back often because you never know when one will pop up - speaking for myself, riding in the winter is still lots of fun but, the weather is a little bit more unpredictable - so it's harder to "plan" a ride - it's more of an inspiration kind of thing.

That being said, you don't have to wait for someone else to post ride - if you want to plan one - please feel free to post it here:thumbup:

That's really amazing that you mentioned track days. I was just looking at this site (http://www.tonystrackdays.com/) which offers classes at NJMP (http://www.njmp.com). Looks like it would be lots of fun, and not too intimidating for a noob like myself.

I think my helmet/gloves/boot are OK but, I'll need to rent some leathers which I haven't looked into - cost wise. But, I would really be into doing that.

I know on previous group rides a few of us were interested in track days so if we could somehow all go to the same event, that'd be a ton of fun. Most of the clubs I researched offer (or require) a class for first timers class. I had been leaning towards Team Promotion (http://www.teampromotion.com) because they seem to offer the most track day events at NJMP. Although today while I was at a Washington Cycle Works one of the employees mentioned he rides with Absolute Cycle (http://www.absolutecycle.com/raceshop/). So there's a few good options available!

I know I will most definitely be visiting the track this season at least once, but I haven't made a decision on which track group to join at this point.

*EDIT* Also NESBA (http://www.nesba.com/) is another organization which offers track days. I know a few people in my office building who track through them.

Jealous! Its too cold in the mornings to ride to work and by time I'm home its dark. Why are all the weekdays nice and then weekends chilly  Hopefully, like Rollin said, we can get group rides started back up next month when it'll be 50+ consistently. Can't wait to use my new helmet :D

Decided to take the plunge and sign up with Team Pro-Motion (http://www.teampromotion.com/) to track this year :D

Haven't picked out any dates yet, but they have a friend referral program. Basically I can bring someone to ride for the day at my rate, but you don't have to have a club membership (so saves you some $$ if you just want to try the track). Also if you sign up for a membership with me as the person who referred you I get 25$ in track credit (which I'd gladly split with anyone haha).

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there in case someone wanted to jump on an opportunity to hit the track. Probably next month I'll pick out a date(s) and let you guys know in case you want to jump on the bandwagon. Yay track!
