The question was asked because today, on a sticky afternoon at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, Honda riders swept the top five spots in combined practice and could repeat the performance in the race. But the order wasn’t quite as expected, and, of course, there’s more than meets the eye.
Dani Pedrosa led the new world champion Casey Stoner by .820 seconds at the end of the day, with Andrea Dovizioso, the third member of the Repsol Honda team, down in third on the strength of his first session effort. He was one of two riders not to improve his time. Following the factory Repsol machines came the factory San Carlo Honda Gresini RC212V of Marco Simoncelli, with Hiro Aoyama fifth on the satellite San Carlo Honda Gresini bike.
