I don't trust the design no matter what they say or prove.
It'll snap in a hard enough crashh

You mean modular helmets in general?

Isnt the fact that it has been proven enough to prove that you're wrong? I think that's the definition of the word.

I looked at this helmet but there were tons of mixed reviews on its quality. Usually they say its loud and some parts break prematurely. It is bell's first attempt at a modular. It looks good but I think the next generation will be of better quality. If they make one that is. Good pricepoint though. Better than say a bilt solar modular helmet I think.

I saw it's profile and liked it's design, but then I found out that it was modular and I wasn't too sure about it. =/

To be honest. I like modular helmets. I'm more of a touring type of rider though. I like going on trips to a destination and enjoying the ride along the way so modular helmets are the perfect compromise. Of course I wouldnt just buy any modular helmet. It has to be relatively supported as being decently safe. FYI, schubert modular helmets are ECE certified... they are however $700.

No, I don't think so.
Harley hats have been "proven to protect your head, but your face will get ****ed

Thats doesnt really help your point.

Harley "hats" as you call it are proven to protect your head by certifying it and as you said it does just that. It was never proven to protect your face. Your example is like saying your jacket doesnt protect your knees. Duh!

Testing or not, I just can't come to terms with having any kind of potential fail point in my helmet. Sure, it may be convenient, and all the tests may say it's safe, but I'd rather wear a traditional full-face than have my face skipping the pavement when a faulty hinge fails in a crash.

I will probably pick on up (dang you for bringing this to my attention). I'd like to see an acutal picture or someone's opinion on the hi-viz though. Some pictures look yellow and others look more neon yellow/green like I am looking for.

Nice find.

I'm always so tempted to buy one of these until I read the reviews. For $85 I might just have to give it a go for myself though

Thanks

3 posts, envy your controled humility and howl at the moon. I can't take some of these f**knuts and obviously let 'em know. Thanked Alex for the Delete button which I stumbled on during a hiatus. You're an example for me to follow is all, thanks for the light.

I noticed on searches that good modulars really cost, never knew if it was the technical or great convenience attributes.

I wasnt sure if you were quoting me but meant to talk to Alex or who... :)

Everybody has their beliefs, I was just trying to clarify things that didnt make sense. Hopefully so that everybody can make informed choices. Personally, I use the EDIT button to cross things out so people know where I've made mistakes and how I've corrected them by leaving a comment. I'm not ashamed of my ignorance on certain things but I do welcome informed advice and comments. Isnt that how we all should be?

Great modulars are just like great helmets. There are a ton of things that can be changed and many levels. Regardless, it's still a helmet so fit and protection is important. Everything else is 2ndary. Try on a multitec and a schubert C3... so far those 2 are the best fitting ones for me.

$85? That is a steal! I was just looking at the same model at another gear website. They have it for $100. Wasn't sure about the whole modular helmet thing, was reading up on it and it seems pretty cool. Does this one also include those integrated sun glasses?
cerberusrex25 looking forward to that review.

Got my 2 on monday, and they both fit well. It is a little hard to get my glasses on while wearing the helmet, but they do work. Might have to modify the padding as I saw someone did on webbikeworld.

Initial impressions are good. They seem decently made, but there are some glaring issues with the supplied accessories. First the breath guard on the top of the chin bar hits the rubber seal of the eye port when you open the chinbar. This can be fixed with a little trimming of the guard with a razor blade, but I think Bell should have fixed this first. Also my helmet came with a breath deflector/chin curtain that I haven't seen in any of the reviews so far (maybe it was a late addition, my helmet has a manufacture date of 8/11. Did your's have this cerberusrex25). It snaps into the vents in the chin bar and kind of wraps around your chin. There were a lot of reviews that said it needed a chin curtain so maybe this is Bell's answer. Unfortunately with it installed you can't open the chin bar more than about half way, as in interferes with the upper part of the helmet. My temporary solution was to remove both the breath guard and chin curtain.

I only took a short ride to work this morning, and I would say the helmet is about as noisy or maybe slightly more so than my HJC IS-16 (on a Versys with a Givi windscreen, and I always wear ear plugs). There is a lot of air that comes in under the chin bar so I will be trying to get the curtain to work for the winter. Also the inner sunshield has good coverage of the eye port, but is not dark enough. I will be getting two dark smoke inner visors (had to do the same for the IS-16). Also the anti-fog coating seems to work great. I had to keep the visor on my IS-16 cracked until I get out of town and get up to speed, but the visor on the Revolver can be closed, and left closed even at traffic lights (well until my glasses started to fog up).

All in all I think it was a good purchase, especially for $85. It is my first modular, and I think I will like it, but I haven't had enough time with my head in it yet to determine that.

Here is a quick picture I snapped at the office.

Also tomorrow my Scala Rider G4 will arrive and I will give that a try. I have used the Q2 with my IS-16, but got a good cyber monday deal on a set of G4's and wanted to upgrade to hopefully only have to take one device with me for wireless music and gps.

I have a Q2 available for a very reasonable price if anyone is interested. I was thinking $75 shipped.

If It does I did not see it, can you take a pic of of it, maybe they included it on the late production models but just want to make sure.

I used the curtain today on the way into work, and it made a huge difference. It does hit the weatherstripping above the visor, but a little force and it will go passed, and allow the chin bar to open fully. I just don't like that, as I would assume it would eventually cause problems with sealing. I will look into a way to fix it, but don't know how much is possible. Also I don't know how well an intercom mic would fit with the chin curtain in place. My G4 comes tonight so I will test it with and without the curtain.

I don't think mine has the chin curtain, I will go and look for it when I get back home(working out of town), I just hope I didnt drop it somewhere when I took it out of the box.

Old thread, but I just picked up (by that, I mean ordered online) a Bell Revolver matte black on sale.

My HJC is pretty scratched up from dropping it but it's still nice so I'm thinking of painting it when I paint my bike, same color. What sold me on the revolver other than the price is the slide down sun visor.

I should get it Monday or Tuesday. Pretty excited. I need to get me some reflective tape to add to it though.

This is the first helmet I bought, and I'm pretty disappointed with it. The visor levers that allow you to remove the visor and put it back on are very poor design and quality. A few plastic parts broke after only about 3 weeks. The helmet is much larger than that of the same size bell helmets, and it seems to weigh a bit more, but I guess that's because of the internal visor.

The helmet... is also extremely loud. I tried out my friends Bell Star, and it was about 50% quieter. Also, I bought the U-Clear HBC 100 and put them into my helmet, which was easy enough... but I discovered the speaker holes are way too far up on the head, resulting in a very quiet set of speakers. I had to actually cut a bit out of the foam so I could put the speakers in.

I'll be buying a new helmet very soon. Just my 2 Cents.

The place I ordered my helmet from just called - they are out of the old model in XS for me so they will send me the new model for the same price :D

I should call and ask for the rally stripe one!
