I love Maine Coons! We had one from the time I was in 7th grade until my sophomore year in college when he sadly died of a seizure - best cat ever!
Though, I think the Ragdolls would be a very close second in my list of choices!

You Are a Sphynx Cat

http://www.blogthingsimages.com/whatbreedofcatareyouquiz/sphynx.jpg

Some say you're part monkey, part dog, part child, and part cat.
You're unique and mysterious enough to seem a little otherworldly.

You're so hyper active that you almost literally climb the walls.
You are also devoted and loyal. But you demand a lot of attention in return.

What Breed of Cat Are You? (http://www.blogthings.com/whatbreedofcatareyouquiz/)

 Poor Chairman's going to disagree with that :p

Fun Chairman Meow story of the moment: A lot of times he'll sleep part of the night in the garage atop my Firebird (He watches for mice believe it or not) and tonight the water heater started acting up. The pressure valve must be faulty (It's a brand new water heater) so it started doing this loud repetive squeeking! It freaked him out until I shut off the water supply to it and the gas. I imagine he thinks it's a giant mouse or something now...

So he's been eying it funny for the past couple of hours (No doubt trying to figure how to kill it). :D

Well, as long as we're doing "funny cat stories"... My cat Jet is a total spaz. Lately he's taken to falling asleep on top of the sofa, behind my head as I'm watching TV. The back of the sofa is about 8" from the wall because there's a heat reister in the floor behind it. Problem is, he tends to fall asleep up there. So about twice a night I'll hear a loud "klunk" and he'll come wandering out from behind the sofa with a squint and the funniest "Wha' happened?!" look on his face. He hasn't figured out the correlation between falling asleep and falling off the back of the sofa yet. Not all cats are graceful and intelligent.

Did the test on everybody in the house, I'm a Maine Coon and the wife and daughter are both Bengal Cat's.

Considering we have 3 cats, 2 females and 1 male. The HBIC is the only one with no front claws, keeps the others in check, and the male is the biggest pu**y in the house, won't stand up to the other cats, he is the youngest, just over a year old.

I discovered a great way to get around that when one of mine peed in the carrier on the way back from the vet, with his brother in there with him - I just threw them both in there in the carrier and got them all hosed down - then let them out to shampoo and rinse.... still drama from the one, but at least I wasn't shredded to ribbons, and he wasn't soaked in pee anymore :)

You Are a Siamese Cat
You are a very communicative creature. You're eager to express yourself - and do so often.
You are very dependent and love attention. You will complain if you are not getting enough affection.

Even though you are very loving, you can seem aloof, unpredictable, and stubborn in relationships.
A relationship with you takes a lot of patience.

I am Siamese, if you please.

I thought I'd throw this in here :( My cat Chairman Meow (He's a ragdoll) is my baby. I always have to let him out to run around the backyard for a good 30 minutes a day. I got a call today to come into work, so after school (around 2pm) I ran home, changed, and since my cell phone was almost dead I plugged it in and left it. Right before I left I let Chairman out to run around and Ma B said she'd get him (which usually just involves finding him and he knows to come back in on his own)...

... So I get home from work at about 9pm and no Chairman (He ALWAYS greets me at the door). Turns out while he was out back he found a new buddy (a baby rattlesnake!). He got bit and is at the cat hospital. He has to stay overnight on an IV and have his blood checked every couple of hours. I have to wake up in about 6 hours to pick him up (He's doing a lot better). :(

The lesson?
Chairman almost died (which I wouldn't be able to accept)
The anti-venom alone is $600 and everything else is a good $300-$400.
I guess the whole process is incredibly painful and stressful (poor kitty :( )

The doctor said snakes start to come out a lot this time of year and in fact at the same time 2 other dogs that showed up at the hospitalfor the same reason (snake bites). So if you have indoor/outdoor cats or dogs be careful! Try to keep long grass and brush trimmed down and keep an eye out along fence lines for snakes.

good juju thoughts to the Chairman!

My first cat, Tick Tock, was the runt of the litter and I had to hand-feed her for weeks or she would have surely perished. I had her for 16 years and she was the best cat anyone could have. She once even got between me and a huge German Shepard trying to "protect" me when a friend brought the dog into the house unannounced. At 16 years old and starting to show her advanced years she developed a tumor on her hind leg. I took her to the vet every week for months for steroid shots that made her feel much better, but eventually they did no good. When it became obvious she was feeling pain I took her to the vet and he euthanized her while I held her in my arms, purring away the whole time. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do and I'm tearing up as I write this remembering what a great companion she was to me for so many years. I still have her collar and ID tag decades later and just can't seem to get rid of them.
I never wanted another cat after Tick Tock passed away, but when my mother died last year I adopted her cat Jet since the poor little guy had nowhere else to go. He cried the whole way to his new home and hid under the bed for weeks before he felt secure enough to explore his new surroundings. Now he acts like he owns the place and although he has a much different personality than my first cat (he's only 3 years old and a juvenile delinquent) we've already become a team.
I don't think you fully appreciate the effect that small creature has on your life until it's no longer a part of it. Hope you two have a lot more years left to enjoy each other's company.
And best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Chairman.

Not cool man, really not cool to say something like that at all let alone in a thread for/by/of cat lovers.

I took the quiz and got bengal cat. I like them and maybe one day I'll have one. for now I don't have any animals cause of my apartment, but still get to see my parent's pets which are 3 cats and a dalmatian. They used to have more but as the years go by they pass away one by one and they just don't really have the urge to have large numbers of animals anymore.

I think my cat Loki was a Ragdoll... He was a stray I picked up...and had to give away because I moved into another house where there was going to be an Akita mix and a Boxer... Yeah Loki looks very ragdollish :) It's tricky because there is about 3-4 breeds that look VERY simliar. Thanks again to all those with kind words. Chairman seems to be back to his normal self. He's eager to go outside (which isn't going to happen anymore :p). To add to that it's raining right now and he STILL wants out :D I snapped some battle scar pics as well.

The paw that was bitten (and consequently shaved)

It's hard to get a picture, but his neck is shaved and something was on his neck ( I don't believe it was the IV, but I'm no doctor ;) ). When he looks upward there's a huge patch of missing fur

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll294/VeX86BirD/Chairman_Meow/Chairmans_Boot.jpg
This looks rather funny, but I think this is where they had to shave an put the IV. It looks like he's walking around with a big furry boot on now.

Hows America and their water storage?

Over here, we're running very low and have water restrictions like no tomorrow, for example only watering plants at certain times of the days, <4min showers, rain water tanks etc.

Well you guys are in the middle of the worst drought ever, aren't you? With the constant news of all the fires over there I'm not surprised you have to ration water. Over here we just keep wasting it like there's no tomorrow. What ticks me off the most is so many people are in the habit of using bottled water even though we have some of the cleanest water on the planet right out of our kitchen taps. And then all those plastic bottles end up in the huge plastic trash island in the Pacific. I hear it's as big as the state of Texas now. Pretty soon we'll be able to walk to OZ!

We made a cat play house today!! Our cats are indoors due to coyotes, Bald eagles and feral cats. The bald eagles during certain times of the year sit outside in a tree in our back yard!! Swoop! there goes my kitty. So to keep them safe , they are indoor only.
We have a dog run. The dogs act as if we are killing them to have them in the dog kennel. So it has become a storage pit. no good.
We moved it today and covered the top with mesh. It is decorated with big tree parts and plants!! They were pretty stoked and weirded out at the same time. :) They can be outside and safe. It is a kitty jungle :)

My cat Jet sprawls out like that all the time. And yes, on occasion rubbing that belly will eventually lead to claw marks for the unwary. Jet has his own way of doing things though. To get in that position he tucks his head in and does a full vertical somersault, landing on his back with all 4 legs stuck in the air.

I have some sad news. Yesterday after I got home from a ride with some friends my cat, Gizmo, followed me upstairs like normal. When I went back downstairs he jumped up like he was going to follow me, but kind of did a flip in the air. I got about two steps down and heard a thump against the wall. I ran back up to see what happened and he was just laying there. He cried once or twice then stopped breathing, and a few seconds later his heart stopped beating. I called the emergency vet, but they were over half an hour away, and I would have had to take him myself. I gave him cpr like they instructed for a good 15 or 20 minutes, but nothing happened.

He just turned 2 so I'm not sure what went wrong, maybe a seizure or something. When he was at the vet in April they told me he had a heart murmur so maybe that had something to do with it. He said it was only a problem if I started to notice him breathing strangely, but Gizmo was always fine.

I have had other cats die before but this is harder because he wasn't old or sick like the others, and those cats weren't actually "mine". I got Gizmo 2 weeks after I moved into my first house. I'll miss him so much. Just needed to get this all out to help with the grieving process. Rest in peace little buddy.

You're unique and mysterious enough to seem a little otherworldly.

You're so hyper active that you almost literally climb the walls.
You are also devoted and loyal. But you demand a lot of attention in return.

My in-law has a bunch of them. Browse my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/adzla

Talking about cat.. I once save a cat in the middle of a highway from being crushed by cars, lorries. The cat I think is being dumped by some idiot owner with low life, and no ounce of humanity. The little tyke is squatting and looked very afraid by the busy moving vehicles. I stopped by the side and quickly grab it and stuffed into my jacket. I bring it to my office and gave it to one of the office janitor (She was actually looking for a kitten for her daughter.) The kitten was so afraid it even pooped to my shirt.

I hate people dumped their pet in the road and left them to die, they should at least dump it at in a wet market or places that they can find food and shelter.

Ryan> Sorry about Gizmo. He definitely had a great master.

Hi!

I have a question and I hope there is someone else out there who understands what I am taking about and can give me some insight...

Have you ever had a problem with your cat (indoor cat) steeling? Items like clothing, bags of bread, food that is wraped up, etc...

I have the worst problem with one of my cats steeling! He takes bags of food (or anything else he can find) every night but wont eat it or destroy it 95% of the time. It just gets stepped on and smushed when he leaves it laying on the floor in a dark room. He usually brings it to the bedroom. I have woken up to a whole loaf of bread at the end of my bed many times! And he took it up a flight up stairs. When he's feeling brave he'll steel the sandwich or bagel you just made when you turn around.

Why would he be doing this? Anyone else ever have that problem? I have tried hiding things but I can't hide everything.

This is the theif.

Poppy my orange cat will take nuts, bolts zip ties but mostly carries around this goofy little mitten. You would have to be careful if you were working on your bike or anything because a part would be somewhere lost. She also takes atm slips, atm cards, Drivers lic. if your purse/ pack is open. So I would leave bread out if I were you to appease the Tim boy!

We were thinking that maybe, just maybe, he brings us 'presents'. Like an outdoor cat will bring you birds, mice, and whatever else they can catch to show their affection. Since he's stuck inside, maybe he 'caught' that loaf of bread and puts it by the bed as his way of showing his affection. Cant think of any other reason why he would be doing this.

Or maybe he's just mad that we painted that room pink.

Gizmo would just steal things he wanted to chew on. One day I left an SCCA sticker on my desk, and came home to find it in his room with a bunch of teeth holes in it. I figured he wanted it for his own, so I put it on his cat carrier. He seemed to like that :D

I've got a big problem with this, my younger kitty. She's 9 months old, seems happy, plays frequently, and uses the litterbox. However, when she feels like it, she'll go and pee all over my bed. I've been through 4 mattresses in the last 30 or so days.

My cat Keiko is a fiend for bread products too. She'll steal a bite of my sandwich if I turn around or leave it unattended for more than a few moments. She doesn't relocate food though, unless it's a bag of kitty treats, which she has shredded and consumed on numerous occasions. Wonder if their liking for bread has any relation to the amount of carbohydrates in the standard cat chow to help it taste better...

Keiko went through the "I'm upset with you" urination phase too. Fortunately she just destroyed a cheap futon, but at the time that was my bed. Honestly don't know what to suggest other than some chemical training aids to keep the kitties away from the bed. Not a great option, but it worked for me long enough for her to get past that phase.

Petsmart and the like have some products that tend to help remove the smell so you don't have to trash things... Justin, have you considered a plastic mattress cover/pad like what they use for little kids who have bed wetting problems? Not the most comfortable to sleep on, but better than continually replacing mattresses!

I had a cat that started to pee on everything! and out of the blue too. I had to put a tarp over my bed/chairs whenever I wasn't sleeping.

As far as Timmy stealing, he doesn't destroy anything, pee on stuff, or anything! He just seems to like to move things around... he's a little odd but the sweetest big boy.

I thought this was funny. My grand father was over the other night and doesn't particularly like animals. I think Clutch could tell, and was trying to convert him.

The stare down.

He then curled up on his lap, and slept there for a good hour and half or so. Avery was sleeping there for even longer.

:( . Our beloved cat died. I don't know what are the complications, but she passed away peacefully.

If you havent tried it yet.....get a ziptie....cats LOVE them.....Just drag it across something, and watch the cat go nuts chasing it. They seem to like the bright yellow ones the best.

And here is the funny for the day.....

Thank you guys.

I can get thru it, but the cat was very close to my father in-law. He's a bit depressed when he knew about the cat died.

Yeah, I missed her fluffy-ness.

I will have to post up some photos of my herd. I have been rescuing cats for ten years. Fix and release was the plan .After we figured out that they wont leave. We started giving them away to good homes. Fixed with shots cost me about 150 dollars a cat. But over the years we have seen a total decline in the number of stray cats in the neighborhood. All told we are up to 87 cats we have fixed/rescued .We still have eight and had to put down at least 10 . Mostly for injury's or leukemia

I still have eight cats and two dogs
three orange tabby s. One is a female .They are very rare

two regular tabby s

one Russan blue one
black and white guy

and one black cat. Out of all of them the black cat "Inky " Is the smartest cat I have ever seen . She is two years old and runs the whole show. Anyone else have a black cat that is exceptional?

Awesome! I especially like how the kitten climbs up on its own at the end. I guess it lets them know when it's gotta go!

It looks like they have an Acer Aspire one also. I plan to ditch mine now that I have an Alienware M11x but it certainly made my cross-country trip with ease.

My little dose of feline, Keiko. She's half Mine-coon, half Idunno. Terribly soft, but unless you're daddy, attempting to pet her is considered a mistake.

The quiz labelled me as a ragdoll as well! :crazybounce:

Our real rag doll, Newton, would be happy to hear it...

http://www.ciurczak.com/photos/3465121_SLsCn-S.jpg

Was going through the site looking for pics & posts about Newton; sadly we just lost him last week at 13.5 years. Feel fortunate that the kids (and us) got to say goodbye before taking him to the vet for the last time; it looked like he had run away to find a quiet place to depart this realm, but somehow he came back a day later with virtually all of his strength fading. Our dog is going to miss his playmate, and I wonder if we have it in us to find another kitten or cat to help him out at some point.

Sorry about the loss of your cat.

Recommendation: don't rush into getting another cat right away. Wait a few months. Let it sink in. New kitten can become a loved family member, but will never replace Newton.

Sorry to hear about your losing a friend and family member :(. I was devastated when I lost my Mummbles (yes, that's the spelling). I had her for 18 years, my entire adult life at that point. I moped around the house for two weeks, feeling like my house was empty. Then I went out and got Mack and Gator. Can't imagine life without my two boys! They rescued me as much as I rescued them.

Sorry to hear about that, Alex. Pets are so great to have, but like a family member it's so tough to see them go :( Hope your family is doing better now.
