Don't think I'd want to own one, because I'd surely lose my license, but I'd love to know what it feels like to have that much power on 2 wheels. It doesn't look like it'd be as prone to lifting the front wheel as a ZX6R seems to be...is that the case?

Nothing screams "parking lot poseur" like an extended swingarm.

And "yea" is an expression of excitement, synonymous with (and rhymes with) hooray, means something like, "yea!, we get icecream!" While "yeah" is an expression of agreement; nothing rhymes with it, but it is commonly used in the expression "Hell, yeah!" and means something like, "yes, I agree".

It's a common improper paradigm among sport bike riders. If you have ever seen a 14 or busa in person you would understand where the general thought process started since they are CONSIDERABLY longer/larger then most sport bikes. But they are surprisingly nimble/agile for such a large two-wheeled vehicle.

They do however require a certain... Finesse (manhandling) to get them to lean as far as most sport bikes are pushed in similar situations.

Let's put this in context, however...

I was working, and picking up equipment (in a company truck, on the clock) from a location just under 7 miles away... and I had a tire for caps. And I had no gear with me... So yeah, just a quick ride up and down his driveway. I'm not going for a 45 minute ride on your 200 hp deathcycle-14 all squid-ed up.

I would have gone over 15 MPH, but one of your neighbors was walking his dog, and the dog was already wigging out.

For what it's worth, Ninjette riders, at 10 MPH the ZX-14 is heavy, but well balanced enough that it felt very comfortable maneuvering around tight areas. Even for a 5'7" guy like me, the bike was low enough to easily handle, and the riding position, while a little less upright than a 250, was nowhere near as cramped as a ZX-6r. It's not really my style, but it's still a pretty nice bike. It would be a fun bike, but I would be more likely to climb onto my ER, just because it's more comfortable for the riding I do.

I've ordered all of the parts I need to at least start it. Hopefully they will arrive by this coming weekend and I will be able to see if I need to put this off for a while (If I have engine problems), or if I can keep going one piece at a time. The first thing I did was pick up a full OEM exhaust since my headers were tweaked and I found a full system on craigslist for DIRT cheap. It is off a 2010 which has a different header then the 06/07 mine had. So first thing I had to do was cut open the new header to remove the catalytic converter that mine didn't have.

Now that is sitting at Burkette's house curing for the next day or two. So when the new (i <3 salvage yards) lower radiator hose comes in I will pick the header up. Then all I have to do to see if it cranks is;

Paint the header
Mount the new header
Mount the OEM slip ons
Mount the radiator
Install the radiator plumping
Pray
Attempt to start it

I also REALLY don't want to paint this thing (I hate painting, and I can't imagine it being easy with all the curves), so I have been playing around with a couple ideas;

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff24/capsisking/ZX-14/20121215_100503.jpg

But nothing is set in stone yet. I also picked up a TON of OEM plastics, so I have a second set of almost every fairing, and triples of the tail.

Sorry I have been neglecting you guys here lately. I work 8:30-5 then spend a couple hours with the wife before venturing down to the garage to do whatever I can till normally 11ish, then sleep to do the same the next day. Along with juggling my extra work, painting the bike, installing parts as they come in, and the Justin Ride I haven't had a ton of time lately. And I go riding on any free time I can muster. But I brought some pictures as a peace offering to you mofo's in hopes that some of you may start showing some interest in this thread again (besides Jayson and Tommy <3 you guys).

So as most of you who are on my facebook (Sorry Tommy, it's always a couple days ahead of this thread) already know I have been painting my rims as well. The rear is done and has already been abused, the front won't get worked on till after the Justin Ride on Sunday.

This is the OEM bronze-ish color that they only made on the 06 (yes I felt kind of bad about painting them, no not enough to buy another set).

Don't think I'd want to own one, because I'd surely lose my license, but I'd love to know what it feels like to have that much power on 2 wheels. It doesn't look like it'd be as prone to lifting the front wheel as a ZX6R seems to be...is that the case?

It's illegal to chase a bike here in FL unless the officer witnesses a felony. However, that doesn't stop them;
http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/region_north_pinellas/clearwater/witness-says-deadly-crash-on-courtney-campbell-started-with-police-chase

The dash cam was just released this week and it shows the cop chasing, as well as lane splitting the bikes to get to the front.

The brake mount REALLY limits how far forward it can go, I may still be able to take a link or two out, but right now it's WAY longer than I wanted. If I knew it would be this long I would have gone with a 45T rear instead of the 43T I got (41T is stock).

I'm going to ride it for a bit and see how a feel about it. Taking links out will only lessen the way to handles. So if it is blatantly apparent that I don't like it I would rather just take the blocks out instead of fiddling with the chain twice (once to take links out, once to take the blocks out).

But either way this is my bike as of now;

I was hoping the tail would only be 1-2 inches shorter than where the tire sits. That didn't quite happen...

Stretched isn't really my thing, and apparently not too popular on this forum in general, but I gotta say this is probably the best 14R I've ever seen. Simple, clean and functional. No retarded super fancy single sided swing arm with a 300+ tire on it and ridiculous chrome everywhere lol. + you fit the bike and you've put a ton of work into it.

Thanks bud I truly appreciate it. I know it's not a popular thing (on any forum I care to take part in) to stretch a bike. One of these days I will throw it on a dyno and these guys will understand. At this point, it's really needed.

And there is actually a LOT more work put into it than what is in this thread. My build thread since October is here;

http://tampasportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php?60953-Caps-ZX-14-Build

However, it is close to being done (cosmetically).
•Powder Coat bolt heads (Black)
•Powder Coat Wheels (Gold)
•Powder Coat Clutch/Stator Covers (Gold)
•Ceramic Coat Headers (Black)
•Rizoma Resevoirs (Black )
•New Seats (One stock cut down for drag racing, one Saddleman)
•Kickstand

Then Next year will be Suspension/Brakes and this thing will be done completely. Unless I decide to get another one and turbo this one (seriously considering).

Well... Unsurpisingly the bike is getting more gold :eek:

The wheels are currently painted, but they will be done in the same gold powderoat that the heel guards are already done in. Also, the Stator/Clutch covers will be done in the same gold.

First step is to get it on the lift and secured. I never realized how hard that would be now that it is stretched...

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/969210_10151958707574196_692749015_n.jpg

It required two people and removing parts of the lift (front wheel chock, and stopper), I may need to pick up an aftermarket front wheel chock and bolt it to this lift like some have done on the 14 forums.

Then remove the parts for powdercoating
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/580424_10151958709834196_2058222604_n.jpg

The wheels still need to be disassembled, but the shop that is going to take the rubber off isn't open today, so I wasn't in a big hurry to get those done.

And the last step is to take some more (mostly useless) pictures for the forums!

So... Last we were getting ready to powdercoat the parts. If you have never actually seen powdercoating done it is actually a REALLY cool process, I knew how it was done, and how it works, but I had never seen it done before. My covers used to look like this;
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/580424_10151958709834196_2058222604_n.jpg

Then after media blasting they looked like this (the glass sight is taped over);
https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/5353_10151960109524196_1293398788_n.jpg

Ok, this is where it gets interesting, the orange thing on the left is the powdercoating gun. The top (clutch) cover is already coated, and the lower (stator) is not yet.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1002229_10151960109864196_278154275_n.jpg

https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1003456_10151960111279196_772710700_n.jpg

They are currently painted, but I found out (the hard way) that the degreaser I use on my spring also happens to eat paint like it's nothing. So we will fix that in the same way as we took care of the cases :thumbs:

First I removed the sprocket, rotors, and cush drive
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/970851_10151962322434196_1744584115_n.jpg

Now it's definitely not perfect, mosty becasue I rushed him a lot.... And he offered to redo them, but honestly I'm too impatient and want to get back to riding my bike. I may redo them if my bike ever becomes a trailer queen, but for a bike that gets the snot beat out of it regularly I'm a happy camper.

It's kind of an optical illusion. They are a few inches shorter, but they get wider as they go back. The coloring makes them hard to photograph (at least on a cell phone during lunch) because in the picture they look super long and skinny, which they aren't.

Lol, I've got multiple bikes for a reason. I haven't made it to the 1/4 mile yet at all (local track is 2 hours each way), but the 1/8th I was running mid 6's with a bad prep before the stretch. The bike EASILY has mid 5's in it, but at my size that's kind of hard to do...

Don't worry bud, some day when you get a big boy bike, you'll understand why it's extended.

And it's a good thing I don't mod my bikes to please some random kid on the internet :rolleyes:

Perhaps you mean the one that cost more than both of your bikes combined, wasn't purchased 2nd hand and isn't built to squid around on? :rolleyes:

Or do you want me to post some of the other bikes? Maybe the R1 with forged wheels and not just a cheap powder coat?

Your choice in mods don't need to please me but they certainly make me laugh at you. And no, my 'big boy bikes' don't make me understand the need for an extended swingarm because I enjoy how well they handle. :thumbup:

It's more to work with my size than the stretch, and my rear is taller than oem to retain the turn in.

Lol, I actually have several bikes. I only post my build thread for the kawi's here.

And that bike didn't work out :-(

You're looking at my rear shock being filled with oil. I'm still debating nitrous.

Cool. I've never played with much suspension except switching out parts, all this valving and such makes me think everyone is installing hydros or airbags.
That sux, but there are plenty more bikes all around everywhere.

Fleet - A group of two or more vehicles owned or leased by a business or agency, rather than an individual or family.

Meh. Priorities. The Duc and the 14 get a ton if work and the ninjette and R6 are mostly for when people come over who don't have a bike and want to ride.

Pretty sweet, but isn't that like stock s1000rr numbers. I expected the zx-14 to top 200hp easily.

I think the older ZX14s made quite a bit less HP than the newer ZX14s. Which is what you are thinking of. I think.

A ton of liter bikes, and a few big boys (busas, 14s, and an s1K)

Yup. The old ones were 200 at the crank the new ones are 200 at the wheel.

It's a 7 year old bike with 27K miles, I'm not sure what you were expecting.

I also think your a bit misinformed about what the ZX-14 is. It's not the step above the ZX-10, it's a machine that was built to keep up with a liter bike when 2-up. Which it still does 7 years later.

The big bikes are known for their arm ripping torque. At 5K rpms they make more torque than most bikes on the market regardless of make/model/size/style.

One more example of why big fat-ass midrange torque is more useful, usable, and fun than pure top end peak power. (take that CBR250R haters and peak-hp gospel boys)

Can you tell me it bugs me when people base their opinion of a bike on nothing but the peak power output number? :) I ride a bike with 30 hp (maybe) for goodness sake. But the mid-range is smooth and pulls right through rpm's that are useful on my bike.

Not trying to criticize, your one bike makes more hp than all my bikes combined, just thought the 14 was capable of more.

And yeah it's not a bike that's designed to compete with a liter bike, but it was designed to compete directly with the 'busa. Which was the fastest production bike at one time I do believe.

Only reason I would have a bike like the zx-14 is so I could brag about my dyno numbers and quarter mile times. So in this case, at least to me, it is all about hp.

Comparing results from one dyno to another isn't very helpful. One might show 175 another might show 188 and another might show 160.

But the peak hp is completely irrelevant on a 14. It's shockingly comfortable, handles better than anyone would expect for a big bike (on a track you won't out-corner supersports but on the street it's more than capable) and the torque.. oh my the torque that only comes from displacement (or forced induction). Ride one and you'll see.

You can keep your peak hp at 13k+ rpm's, i'll take my 50% more torque through most of the rev range.

I can attest to this... There was an older guy on a 14 at my last track day, I was slightly quicker than him but he didn't have a problem keeping fairly close behind me. On my last session I could barely pass him in the corners and there was no way I could pass that beast in the straights so I just backed off and stayed behind him for that session and it wasn't a problem at all.
