View Full Version : Tail bag that can hold shoes?

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a tail bag that's large enough for a pair of shoes/sneakers (size 11) that's not really tall. I have a Joe Rocket tail bag that will hold a pair of pants if I roll them up really tight, but it sure won't hold any footwear. I had a small version of a duffel bag that held my shoes for work and I used to throw everything else in the backpack. The little duffle ripped and now I've been putting my shoes in my backpack and they just about fill it up. I've been looking but I haven't found any duffel bags that small and every tail bag I've seen that's big enough to hold my shoes or sneakers seems too big. I don't want to look like I'm packed for a camping trip every day I go to work. Any suggestions?

Hey Roy, my tailbag was just delivered today. I ordered it to carry a few smallish items (moleskine notebook, bible, gloves, tools, hat, visor shield etc. ) so I'm not sure if it'll hold a pair of sneakers. I'm a size 10.5 so I can check and see if a pair of mine fit tomorrow. This is the bag I ordered...

I carry my size 13 Nike's in my Recon Transit 19 Tank bag. I have the recon platoon tail bag, that fits them also, but the bungie's that come w the tail bag a bit short to fit good on our bikes (I replaced them w longer bungies from Home Depot).

check out the motocentric tailbag. it is reasonably priced around $70 and it is expandable to hold even more gear!

Thanks! You guys are great. Now I have a couple of options besides a plastic bag and bungee cords!

Here are some pictures as promised:) I'm pleased by the initial impression. The canvas material is strong and holds its shape, zippers seem solid, and it shipped with a couple of choices in strap types to anchor the bag. It actually reminds me of some of my higher quality camera bags by lowepro. And there seems to be just enough room for a pair of shoes and folded jeans ta-boot.

I added some photos as attachments, let me know if they come through. Shucks, the last one is upside down... or the bag contains its own anti-gravity field.

Oh, the bag also comes with optional backpack shoulder straps.

I've had my eye on the Motech Soft Saddlebags for the 250R (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/6851/817/). 42 liters total, includes dry stuffsack, easy custom mounting system that works for ninjette. Before I press the "buy" button, I remember that I ride a sportbike on a small island and come to my senses. But it sure would be nice to have the luggage space for a change of clothes. Hmmm, maybe I'll look one more time . . .

I feel you Floyd. I've had my eye on the same system:thumbup:

I'm deciding between that option and a magnet tank bag for my next luggage purchase.

If you get the magnet tank bag do not get a Joe Rocket manta bag. Stupid thing totally messed up my tank paint. Check out Rapid Transit Recon (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/71/3414/ITEM/Rapid-Transit-Recon-19-Magnetic-Tank-Bag.aspx) bags, much better quality.

I can't see how it's attached, are the straps pretty hidden? I looked at some tail bags today and they were a virtual mess of straps and bungee cords and crap. I want it to look tidy.

I have a Kriega US-20 tail bag and a Rapid Transit Recon 19 tank bag. Shoes fit in either. Neither will damage paint, however, the tank bag can leave a black residue on the tank which can be cleaned off easily.

Got any pics of your bike with it on? Looks large.

no pics, but I did need to replace 1 of the bungees for a longer one to make it secure.
I've actually only used it for fitting it on bike so far, it's for the trip in Aug.

Saddlemen Tunnel Tail Bag!!! I just posted about this bag in another thread but it's absolutely perfect for the little Ninja. I usually tuck one shoe down into each side and still have most of the main compartment open.

Hey Dubya, that's a pretty sleek looking bag. How are the attachment points? I really enjoy my slipstream tailbag, but the one down side is that I have to hassle with straps to mount it and remove it from my bike. Is the mounting system any more user friendly with your saddlemen?
