Possible alternative for Factory Pro Blue Magic Shift Spring

Posted August 18th, 2015 at 12:38 AM by Ghostt
Updated August 22nd, 2015 at 08:57 AM by Ghostt

I was looking into the Factory Pro Blue Magic Spring which helps with false neutral, and gear selection problems. It's a stiffer spring in short.

Kawasaki ZX Ignition Coil Pack modification.

Posted August 9th, 2015 at 09:45 PM by Ghostt
Updated August 30th, 2015 at 08:49 AM by Ghostt

I've decided to do the coil over plug modification on SERENITY, so first step was to purchase the coils.

After looking on eBay I found a set for 00-02 Kawasaki ZX6R ZX6 05-08 ZZR600 Engine Motor Ignition Coil Packs w/ Harness, for a total cost of $30.00. Must have the harness which is needed to adapt the Ninjette wiring to the coils. It's important to get the harness, because the coil connectors are different.

Next step was to unwrap the coil harness, so I could cut the OEM connectors from the harness.

Cut at the OEM splice points, which there are two.

Digital gear indicator

Posted April 15th, 2015 at 03:39 PM by Ghostt
Updated March 29th, 2015 at 09:18 PM by Ghostt

Well I decided why the hell not install one. it's one of those things I don't need, but I figured it might be nice to have.

I purchased one off eBay for about $20 USD almost a year ago.

Installation time:

I decided on the mounting location, above the warning lights on the instrument panel. So drilled a small hole in the trim panel for the wires to pass thru, and secured the indicator with 3M mounting tape.

I also decided to make use of the power, ground, and neural light at the panel as well. So removed the gauge panel, and found the wires needed.

I used the gauge lighting to power the unit, positive and negative leads, and the neutral ground wire as well. I then proceeded to find the leads at the harness plug, removed the connectors and soldered the leads right to them.

I also removed gauge lighting metal diffusers. I did this due to I'm using LEDs, and just by doing this increased the brightness...

Finally my bike is 100% LEDs now!

Posted February 12th, 2015 at 02:13 PM by Ghostt
Updated March 29th, 2015 at 08:42 PM by Ghostt

With the exception of the headlight, which is HID.

I only had the four regular OEM bulbs in the warning/indicators, which is a smaller(T6.5) size compared to the dash lights(T10)

So after some searching on eBay, I found the proper size, placed my bid, and won, all for the price of $1.51 USD with free shipping, and 10 of them to boot.(according the stamp it cost them $3.40 USD in shipping)

They arrived today, and these things are tiny, but they have 5 small SMD LEDs per bulb, 3 top/2 side, very cool looking BTW.

Unfortunately the weather here was gone to cold, windy crap, so I'll have to wait for better weather for sure.

I will most definitely follow-up with pictures, and write up, when I get a warmer day for sure,

stay tuned folks.

UPDATE 03/12/2015

Well finally had nice weather, and I installed the LEDs, and the pictures below shows the difference, OEM Vs LED, LED...

Inexpensive aluminum chain guard upgrade/modification.

Posted December 23rd, 2014 at 12:23 PM by Ghostt
Updated March 7th, 2015 at 07:40 PM by Ghostt

This is another inexpensive upgrade/modification, that not only IMHO Looks better, and might offer some added safety.

Let's all take a look at the OEM black plastic chain guard on the 88~07 models,
IT'S BORING!!!!
and it's plastic, which if the chain does break, doesn't do a damn thing except break.

Awhile ago I took mine and wrapped it in genuine imagination carbon fiber wrapping, and spayed it in non-visible clear coat. While this helped the looks, did nothing for the safety aspect.

So now what Ghostt?

*Then I remembered something from the EX500 world. There was a bolt on upgrade, using the aluminum chain guard from of all things, a Suzuki Bandit 1200, perfect! IMPORTANT!!*must be from a 2nd generation 2001~2005

So after doing some measurements, it will, and does bolt up exactly the same as the OEM, bolt holes are 275mm apart, at the swing arm attaching points.

A quick search on EBay, and I found...

Flo Stainless Steel Reusable Oil Filter

Posted December 17th, 2014 at 07:02 PM by Ghostt
Updated March 30th, 2016 at 04:04 PM by Ghostt

Okay, so after some thinking about I decided to go to a reusable oil filter.

The brand that seemed to stand apart was FLO OIL FILTERS, by PC RACING retail price $59.95 USD.

The following is from their webpage

Superior Filtration:

This should be the last oil filter you will ever buy! Made from laser cut, medical grade, 304 stainless steel micronic filter cloth, this filter provides 200% more filter area in many cases. Our stainless filter catches items down to 35 microns, which is about 3 times better than most good paper or brass filters. Unlike glued paper filters, the FLO Oil Filter pleat seam is welded and able to withstand up to 600 degrees.

Consistent flow under all conditions:

This filter maintains consistent flow under all conditions including extreme heat, the presence of water, and cold start ups where paper filters can flow so poorly that they often cause the bypass valve to open and allow

Mad Hornet's flushmount front turn signals /AsianCycle flush-mounts clones

Posted December 13th, 2014 at 08:53 AM by Ghostt
Updated January 21st, 2015 at 04:05 PM by Ghostt (photos added)

Okay I know what your say, "not another flush mount that doesn't even come close to fitting the OEM area"

Well if you've been here awhile, then you've heard the tales of the old AsianCycle flush-mounts, and how great they where, but like so many great accessories for our beloved 88~07 Ninjas', they have faded away, leave everyone trying to find them on the used market with little or no success.

Well my fellow forum members, they have returned!!!! Kinda. A company called Mad Hornets is supplying them again, or at least a copy of the AsianCycle flush-mounts. I have ordered myself a pair, to not only use, but for the propose to review.

They were $24.99 USD, and free shipping, they offer them in black/smoke & chrome/clear. I ordered the clear, because all my others are clear, and it goes well with my color scheme.

So now I wait for the postman like I'm waiting on Santa, I shall return with a full write up, a blog entry,...

Who wants to see a MOSFET R/R upgrade?

Posted December 10th, 2014 at 09:15 PM by Ghostt
Updated February 4th, 2015 at 10:57 PM by Ghostt (Update 12/12/14)

Yup, it's time to lose that old school SHUNT STYLE R/R to a more accurate, and dependable MOSFET R/R.

Mosfets run cooler, plus they’re more efficient. So if your stock R/R unit has burned out, maybe it’s time to move to a newer Mosfet type unit as shown here. Mosfet R/Rs model names start with the letters FH. Old type models start with SH.

I have the R/R (FH010) already, just waiting for a few little pieces to show up.

Stay tuned folks, I promise a nice clean and easy installation, with pictures of course.

Update 12/12/14

Pieces & Parts.

Okay I ordered the connectors from Eastern Beaver (http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__...onnectors.html )

They offer a great selection and options to make the conversion, easy, and reliable, depending on the level you wish to take it to.

I myself am choosing to do this modification as a plug-n-play...

Modification OEM seat

Posted December 6th, 2014 at 05:17 PM by Ghostt
Updated February 12th, 2015 at 11:49 AM by Ghostt

Okay I looked at a Corbin seat, and decided I'd give it a try and modify my OEM seat, hell gotta be cheaper right?

Seat modifications are fairly easy and cheap to do, I would recommend picking up another seat off* eBay , there cheap enough, and then have at it.

So what's first? Comfort, so after looking and doing research I'd settled on a gel/memory foam insert.

I found what I was looking for from ONLYGEL.COM
they have a large selection of types, and sizes. The one I finally picked was the CONFORMAX™ Motorcycle Seat Gel Pad, model=Long RP
specifications:
Thickness: 1.0"
(0.5in.ULTRAGEL/0.5in.ULTRAVIS foam)
Length: 16"
Width Rear: 7"
Width Front: 5"
Includes Smoothing foam and installation notes.

Second was looks, I decided to take this opportunity to replace the OEM cover with one from our friends at Custom Seat Creations.
I picked the COWL LINE...

How to lower your bars....

Posted November 16th, 2014 at 08:33 PM by Ghostt
Updated September 2nd, 2015 at 06:05 PM by Ghostt

Okay some of us want to lower the handle bars on our 250s, but don't have a bunch of cash or don't want clip ons.

Well here's a little modification that won't break the bank. First you need to get a set of risers from and early model ZX600, or 1986~1987 Ninja 250 I got my ZX600c risers off eBay for $12.00 shipped, which requires a little modification to fit.

Now you have to grind a small amount off of them so they fit, the end is slightly curved, where ours are straight. Once you've done that, it's and easy swap out the risers.

WARNING: red loc-tite is on the bar bolt, so you might want to heat them up a little bit.

As seen it the pictures below you can see for yourself how much lower they are, just enough, but not too much I think.

I like my the shorter style, but then again I have really long arms, so it's no problem, even more comfortable for me.

It doesn't really effect it too much,...
