Yup, I was wearing boots. My foot would be much worse off had I not been. Everything is healing well, still a bit tender when touched but otherwise fine.

I found that pushing it all the way in caused it...

I found that pushing it all the way in caused it to not catch the rod, I had to lift it 0.5-1cm to make it catch.

Interesting, the 2007 owner manual lists uni-trak lubrication under periodic maintenance but the 2011 doesn't. Perhaps Kawasaki have sealed it better.
