Agreed, but if it's really going to be ridden offroad, that tradeoff would be worth it. If it's just for show and is going to stay on pavement, the whole thing is silly. :)

There's no magic in hoses, so there's no need to pay for the OEM version. Just get decent tubing of the right size, rated for exposure to gasoline.
