i would suspect vacuum leak. Check your carb seal into the boots. If you over tighten the claps it can cause a leak, to loose can cause a leak. Also recheck all your hoses. Good luck.

check your cables. loosen them, wiggle them, retighten them. That's at BOTH ends, also check ground strap from engine to frame.

Wasn't saying you had bald tires. But at 5000miles they are probably passed half worn out, starting to square, and the rubber is harder. Not a big deal in warm summer months, but cold, wet weather. ....
