Yeah, I tapped on both carbs with a screwdriver...

Yeah, I tapped on both carbs with a screwdriver quite a bit, hoping that the float would release. Drained the carbs and then let them refill more than once, but no luck.

At least the weather here...

Yes, you can put in a tube to fix hard to find leaks, but then you can't just put in a plug to fix a flat when stuck on the side of the road....
