What helped me was to get on an empty street with a slight decline. Give it just a little bit of gas to get it going and then just coast. Grip the tank with your knees and just ride it out.

Questions about braking and the clutch

I've been riding for awhile now but I'm always thinking of ways to get better or constantly wondering if I'm doing something "wrong" since other than the MSF, I'm self-taught.

What I'm curious...

Thanks for the posts. I'm smooth with shifting, I've just always been curious about 1st gear not feeling as smooth as higher gears. I was just wondering if that was due to the 250's smaller engine...

Been riding a year - Some questions

I've been riding for about a year now. I'm pretty comfortable zipping around town for the most part. I still refuse to go on the interstate with how crazy people drive. That said, I have some...

Starting with or without the choke

I've had my 250 for about half a year now and this is my first time letting it sit through the winter.

For the first time this season I tried starting it up for a ride and it wasn't exactly easy...

Popping the clutch

Yeah, more questions.

Popping the clutch. What exactly is this and when should you NOT do it? As noted in my other thread, I'm about 500 miles in on my 250 and I'm still playing around and getting...

Downshifting for turns

I'm about 500 miles in on my 250 so far and I seem to be handling everything pretty well. One thing that I'm still not good at though is downshifting.

I guess I just haven't gotten used to when to...
