I've seen this done. CR500 in an RS250 chassis. It vibrated so bad, it constantly broke parts. Not a great idea but people still try.

I had no tensioner issues with my 250 or 300 motors that I endurance raced. Around 10 three hour races on the 250 and 2 -3 3hr races with a 300 motor in the bike. All good.
