They got tighter over time. I almost always had to replace them with a thinner shim.

Also, in the beginning, I was getting about 55mpg. Now I am getting about 50mpg. Still not too bad.

If the clutch is slipping, the cause of that might be a cable that is too tight. I believe you should have loosened it. I think there should be 1-2 mm of free play in the clutch lever.

I did the same thing with an impact wrench. After about 10 impacts with the wrench, they spun off easily. Did not even have to apply heat. By far the easiest way to do it!
